Caught an osprey and an egret this morning out at the reservoir. Continually amazed by this camera and the way that it can act both as an incredible low-light full frame camera when you need it to, and also as an incredible crop camera when you need it to.

EOS R5, EF-RF adapter, 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II, 1.4X teleconverter at 560mm, 1.6X crop mode giving effective 900mm, most settings around 1/2000th, F/8, ISO 400, 20 FPS electronic silent shutter, animal eye detection tracking autofocus on.

As per usual, EOS R5 + EF-RF adapter + EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II + EF 1.4x Teleconverter + 1.6x crop mode. F/8 at 1/1250th, ISO 400. 20 frames-per-second electronic silent shutter for all images, and bird eye detection tracking autofocus.

On a different note, I'm totally in love with the RF 35mm f/1.8 STM macro lens. It's so great that my go-to casual use lightweight prime is also an excellent macro. It really has been a huge help when out and about and stumbling upon a cool bug. Normally I would rarely bring macro gear with me unless I was set out to specifically do that, but the RF 35 has made a huge difference.

Here are some shots of praying mantises hunting, which I stumbled upon while on a short hike photographing the prior post's green heron. Wouldn't normally have a macro lens at my fingertips, but the 35 makes it too easy. I also feel like the short 35mm focal length gives you some additional depth of field that you just wouldn't have with a 100mm F/2.8 macro, which makes it a bit easier to get more in focus.

EOS R5 + RF 35mm F/1.8 STM Macro lens, ISO 400, F/6.3, 1/2500th.

Worked a house fire with a dog rescue tonight. Fortunately the dog was brought back to life and is doing okay at the vet in an oxygen crate. More examples of the R5 being an excellent news camera. Huge help as it allowed me to take images as well as immediately press the record button to get video clips while this was happening right in front of me.

EOS R5, RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS, ISO 1,250, 200mm at F/2.8, 1/160th of a second. 4000 pixel crop from a wider image, downsized to 2000 pixels to send to the paper, didn't bother with noise reduction while rushing to file images, so a bit noisey due to the crop and a little bit of post processing brightening.

Nice photos, Ramage. Artistically I really like that second one, but for some reason that last image speaks to me more. I really really miss last minute weekend road trips...I would so much love to be driving down that road right now. Guess the day has me feeling pensive. Anyway, thank you for sharing!
Could not agree more.

Thanks for the comments:)

+1 on the last one. Very much vintage looking, quite a character. Love it.

A great blue heron and white egret tonight.

RF-EF adapter, 100-400mm F/4.5-5.6L IS II, 1.4x Extender, 1.6x crop mode. F/8, ISO 800, 560mm, 1/640th, electronic 20 FPS shutter, and bird eye tracking focus. Pretty steep crops as well, on top of the 17mp crop, so not the best image quality due to the distance and light, but I'm happy with these for social media.
