Little surprised, but I do not yet see an R1 image thread.

I have already seen some great images by forum members go by and I am in my mode where I am testing out the camera and was looking for a place to put some of my images.

Here are images taken yesterday at my backyard feeder. The sun was going down so I had some high ISO images processed in LR with and without some AI Denoise processing.

All on the R1 with the EF 500 f/4 II. All of these are >50% crops of the originals.

1/1250, f/4, ISO 3200

To give a sense of the crop, the above image not exported to 1500 pixel is 1689 x 2534, or 4.2 MPs

A few more. I will start pushing up to ISO 12,800 and higher.

I am starting to push higher ISOs to see how high it goes...but this is 1/2000, f/4, ISO 4000 no noise reduction

Afternoon light tends to be better at my feeder, but with the holiday coming up and a number of storms running through, I thought I would take a few this morning and may post more when I get better light.

R1, EF 500 f/4 II, 1/2000, f/4. All taken at my feeder. R1 is giving me a focal distance of 8.99 m/29.5 ft, which is about right. All of these are exported as cropped, down to about 3 MP.

ISO 12,800, no noise reduction

same image with AI Denoise in LRc (set to 30)

ISO 20,000 w/ AI Denoise (30-35 range)

ISO 25,600 no noise reduction (minor processing)

ISO 25,600 with AI Denoise in LRc (32 if I recall correctly)

I am seeing the impact of higher ISOs not just in detail, but the colors are becoming harder to manage and the DR is taking its toll, especially in highlights. Initial thought is that it may be better to underexpose and work harder to preserve the highlights at high ISOs.

But I am impressed. On an uncropped image, you could likely even go higher. Cropping, I think this may be the maximum I will want.

Great images, thanks for sharing! It's really amazing how far ISO has come and in combination with all of the new Ai noise reduction programs, it's just great.

I hope more people post in here and the R5 Mark ii (my camera) threads. I was really surprised to see so few. I don't think I even knew there was a photo sharing thread for a while. Not sure if it's new or not but I like it! Maybe it's not as seen because it's a bit buried under a lot of other threads. Which I guess makes sense, since this is primarily a tech/rumor site. Fingers crossed more people share. ☺️

Agreed. Most people post in the themed threads such as Bird Portraits, Birds in Flight, Landscapes, Animal Kingdom, etc. But yes, it is nice to be able to see what modern cameras can do, especially when paired with modern post-processing.

Yes, sir, I agree! Especially for people on the fence about a camera.

I personally think just about all modern cameras can create amazing photos in the right hands but some cameras just make it easier (and more likely to get "the" shot).

I'm going to "watch" this thread and the R5ii, in hopes to see more nice photos.

I feel like engaging in this forum is bringing back my desire to shoot more. Well, the desire is always there but I've been using being tired from work as an excuse not to shoot as much as I should be. TMI

I've been struggling getting the R5ii down. My 5Diii is still a piece of cake and super easy for me to use but for some reason, the new camera I find challenging. Not use to all of the different settings, the EVF, etc. I guess just going from dslr to mirrorless. I know if I just used it more, I'd get the hang of it. Anyways, sorry, I'm just rambling now.

Thanks again for sharing and I look forward to seeing more! I hope this year I capture images worth sharing. ☺️
