We posted a few days ago that the Canon EOS Rebel SL2 would be coming in September, which looks to be when we can expect large shipments of the camera body to hit store shelves.

We’re now told the announcement for the EOS Rebel SL2 will actually come in July, though we don’t know if that will be alongside the EOS 6D Mark II, or a different date.

Shipping we’re told will take place in late August or early September.

More to come…

Well, hopefully you are not right about 6D2 announcement in Sept. I am not willing to wait till end of the year to get one.

You're probably right, but considering how entirely different the markets for both cameras are, I'd think it not be unreasonable for both to be announced at the same time.

Sad thing for Sony is the SL2 will make more profit for Canon than the A9 for them.

Canon release cameras for the grassroots, while Sony ignores them.

SL2 will be a M6 in a DSLR form and probably be priced similarly.

4K would be nice, but i doubt it will happen in 2017 for a Canon crop.

They can drop the video entirely for all I care. Make it at least as tiny as before, with better AF, the new 24mpx sensor, tilty-flippy if I say pretty please, and I'm in. Maybe with even lower-light focusing, too.

Would be nice, but it's not on the 77D. No chance it's on the SL2.

Im hoping Canon get on and announce the 6D MKII so I can see what the finished spec. is. My 6D has a high shutter count, has served well but needs replacing after four years of solid service.

I would like to know how many AF points it will have and what metering system, after using the 5DS if this is too crippled then regretfully I will be exploring a grey import 5D MKIV as UK dealer prices are way too expensive and some of the grey vendors match the warranty period, including service by Canon UK.

One question that I can't find asked, is what is keeping Canon from introducing the 6DII?

Is the cause marketing, market saturation, design, features, competition or what?

Also might be backlog in sensor production. Canon has been putting out a lot of cameras lately with their new duel pixel/ADC on board sensor technology.

Only Canon knows the real reason. We can only speculate.

It's possible that they had something ready to go but there was some significant new technology or feature that they decided could be added to the specs of the 6DII and they have been working on testing it out and ironing out the bugs. If that's the case I don't mind the wait.

The other reason could be strategic and market related. Maybe they wanted to have a significant amount of time between the 5DIV release and 6DII. I kinda doubt they would just hang around like that.

I think everyone who is even remotely interested in the 6D line is in the same boat. We just want to know already! It can't be long now. I give it about a month at the most before we get some solid specs leaked!

only canon knows. maybe it's as simple as all the registrations won't be done in time. a product like this has a ton of governmental registrations to go through before release.

but it's really a who the hell knows. maybe canon's simply not ready. or maybe it just makes more sense to have the "big" camera released in the more traditional time of august-september.

It's possible you are asking the wrong question. We don't know what Canon's time frame or target release date is, so it's entirely possible that nothing is keeping them from introducing the 6DII. They may be exactly on schedule for all we know.
