Usually the codes are specific to a buyer, your email must match, for example.

It never hurts to try.

Nope, I got the code from Canon Cinema EOS Advisory Panel, it can be used by anyone at the store checkout page.

Those are not sold at Canon US Online Store. You can use it on XC10 though, it's considered a camcorder.
