Canon PowerShot V3 is Coming Later in 2025

Like a lot of others, I'm lamenting the lack of a quality, affordable compact superzoom. My main camera is a 70D. But my SX720 was always in my pocket/beach bag/bike pack. Unfortunately it died last summer. Went looking for a replacement and guess what? No one was making an affordable compact.superzoom any more.

My night time/ indoor walk around camera is my G16. I know there is a relationship between sensor size and zoom capabilities and I don't know what the formula is, but the 1/1.7 senor in my G16 produces noticably better better pics than 1/2.3 sensor in sx720. Is the 1.7 too big to accommodate a long zoom? Maybe not 40x, but a 20x zoom with that sensor.would be a great compromise between size,. affordability and zoom.

I think the G16 offers a great starting point to build on for an affordable compact superzoom. Especially if they can keep the lens as fast as it is on the G16.
Very good IQ for a compact camera, hot shoe and a (somewhat inaccurate) OVF.
Thoughts?
I also want a high end super zoom that can be wide angle, do well in low light, etc. The specs rumored below to me would be good, although it would be better if the zoom was more than 20X :) A new 750 would be great as I would assume it would have a 40X zoom! I would pay the money based on how well they can enable it to do wide angle, low light, yet still have a massive zoom.

Rumored Canon V3 Specifications:
  • Sensor: 1.4-inch 22.4-megapixel CMOS sensor (likely the same as the V1/R7).
  • Lens: 20x optical zoom (approx. 24-480mm or 24-500mm 35mm equivalent).
  • Viewfinder: Built-in electronic viewfinder (EVF) expected for a better shooting experience.
  • Design & Handling: Deeper hand grip and more robust body, prioritizing a compact stills camera over a dedicated vlogging tool.
  • Performance: Likely to feature 8-stop image stabilization.
  • Video: Potential for 4K capabilities, but likely without active cooling.
  • Release Date: Targeted for the fourth quarter of 2025.

The V3 is rumored to act as a modern, compact successor to cameras like the Canon G3X or SX740HS, designed to appeal to photographers needing portability and high-powered zoom.
