CLDC: Introducing EOS 5DS & EOS 5DS R

Here's a nearly 15 minute video from Canon's CLDC on the 5Ds/R.

Funny to see how they make the 50mp shots appear crisp and detailed in a *video* :-)

I just had a look to see how they spin it. At least on this Canon site they're definitely not presenting the 5ds as a 5d3 replacement or general shooter's model, and they say the R is a "specialist's model" because of occasional moiré and false colors.

Having this matter-of-fact approach, the guy would be fired on his first salesman day in a general electronics market :-> ... but with the specialist's positioning, we probably won't see the 5ds marketed as widespread as the 5d3 or 6d. Pity, I'd like to have an opportunity to play around with it in my local shop.

I agree and from what I've read from Michael Reichmann on Luminous Landscape over the year is that the moire artifacts are almost never an issue. One of the contributors, Sean Reid, has written about it as well (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/essays/the_naked_sensor.shtml). He's shot with MF and other cameras for many years and says he's only seen the artifacts a few times. I've seen them on the 5DIII a few times as well in birds' feathers and the moire tool in DxO Optics Pro works very well.

Also, I see the 5Ds as more of a 1Ds Mark III replacement more than anything else.

CPN writes in "Who is it for"

"the EOS 5DS’s high-resolution 50.6 Megapixel sensor makes it perfectly suited for landscape, fashion and advertising photographers who demand large file sizes and the ultimate in quality for billboards or magazine front covers."

I'm sure Canon doesn't exactly *prevent* anybody from buying it though :-) ... but: they're unusually verbose about the 5ds' position, after all they could have added a mantra like "and everybody else loving crisp and sharp images" or some other marketing yadayadayada.

That's because afaik Nikon positions their 36mp d800 line as a good as a general camera; Canon not doing so with their 5ds might indicate that they'll also jump to 30mp+ with their 5d4? After all, they're missing something in between now.

Maybe they will jump to 30mp+ on the 5d4 because they may go to 24mp on the 6dmkII. Something to hope for.
