Wow that is/was a great deal/steal on a fabulous lens.

One of my most used lenses, so versatile - fabulous image quality, effective IS and AF... and the most portable Canon L telezoom.

I bought my 70-300mm L just after it was released (got a decent deal at my local store, but not this cheap....) I haven't regretted buying it then at all...thousands of awesome photos with it.

Bought one in 2013, sold it in 2014, and bought a refurb during this sale. Why did I sell my first copy? Hastily decided to sell my 6D and all lenses as I was tired of all the weight when traveling. Soon realized I had "cut off my nose to spite my face"...that I could use my iPhone when traveling. Then bought a 70D largely because of reviews indicating the 70-300L performed even better on a crop sensor...and waited for this sale. Long way around to make up for a hasty decision.

Best place to buy lenses second hand is craigslist .. picked up one of these for half price (included tripod collar) in mint condition :)

Most likely stolen, that's all you're going to get on Craigslist for a great deal. :)

Craigslist deals are getting harder to find. I have found deals from reputable sellers, but any more, they have almost disappeared. Shady sellers are fairly easy to spot here in a smaller city.

There was a Craigslist ad last week for a 5D MK II minus charger for $600. The photo was of a 1D MK II!

The seller was in a very small town a few miles from me, so I sent him a e-mail telling him that a camera with no charger or accessories sounded like it was stolen, and when there was a photo of a different model, that added to a buyers suspicion. He sent back a nice not apologizing for the error and provided more details about the 1D MK II, enough to convince me that it was a legitimate error. He was wanting to upgrade to a 5D MK II and it was a slip.

I told him that I had bought a 1D MK II for $600 three years ago, including original box, all accessories, a lowe-pro sling bag, and a lens as well. That camera came from a seller who was a honest older person who just wanted to sell it quickly. I used it for a year or two before selling it to a newspaper photographer buy a new 5D MK II.

I would never consider a 1D MK II (beat up) with no charger for $600.
