Do You want a 1.3x sensor 7D-like camera?

Imagine this:

The 1Dx truly is indeed the only 1D series body, but:

-The 5D III moves upmarket into a more 1D-like body (more rugged and better AF, but still without vertical grip) and has 32MP, Full frame, and ~4 fps.
-A new camera, similar in body to the 5D and 7D, comes along with a 1.3x sensor, and 6 fps shooting at 20MP.
-The 7D retains the 1.6x sensor, and it gets improved drastically in the next generation (7D Mark II), but without more pixels being added.

Do you like this idea? This is not a rumor, but wishful thinking.

It would combine an IQ boost with a bit of the reach of 1.6X bodies, but I wonder if Canon would do it since they'd be reducing the number of camera bodies using an APS-C size, 1.6X crop factor sensor. Keeping the 5D full frame line (or something similarly priced) is very important, at the least.

The 7D is also a go-to camera for many bird photographers (particularly amateurs), so that's something else to consider - a 1.3X crop would get you some of the way there for better IQ than a 1.6X body but you'd suddenly need a longer lens to get the same framing.

I personally wouldn't mind a 1.3X crop sensor body. Hopefully it would be somewhere around the 7D line price, although given the sensor is considerably larger it'd have to be more expensive. If it could split the roughly $1000 difference between the 5D and 7D, it could be useful.

Personally, I don't want it because I won't be able to mount my APS-C lenses.

However, I am sure there are many wildlife photographers out there who will like to have such a camera, especially if it can AF at f/8. Apparently, Chuck Westfall has indicated the 1DX won't be able to AF with f/8 lenses, unlike the 1D4.

I like my 1.6 crop! No, am not interested in a 1.3x:

1. My 300 3.8 becomes shorter...

2. My Sigma 10-20 would still mount, but would only become useless at the wide end (I've mounted it to an old film rebel; it vignettes severely at 10!)

And, all my lenses would get worse in the corners. So, no...

And Canon had better not be thinking of making the 7D mark II the next ASP-H camera! >:( If they do, I'll stick with my 2 7D's and dream of the olden days... :'(

i can't see them making the 7dII an aps-h. i think that the aps-h has now been retired and that to change the sensor size of the 7d would anger far too many people. personally, i'm holding out for the 7dII as an APS-C. hopefully it'll have a wee bit more fps and some of the video issues may be improved. not fussed by more MP, but cleaner iso's would be nice. and please release it soonish, i'm sure my camera is fast approaching EOL, i'm hammering the shutter!
