Dual Pixel RAW to be Lightroom compatible

Well this is a bit of welcome news for photographers looking forward to the flexibility offered by Dual Pixel RAW, but likely to sidestep it's use if DPP remained the required software to process it. Now it's looking like Lr is going to support Dual Pixel RAW. Good! Well done Canon for releasing to necessary code for Adobe to add compatibility.

Canon aren't the "evil bastards who are determined to destroy your workflow" people make them out to be.

Once you buy the camera, they don't give a shit what software you use to edit the photos,

So, I read this on the heels of watching Tony Northrup's video where he say's this won't happen

In general, I like Tony, but sometimes he does go off into the weeds.

Northrup's infomercials are full of misinformation. If they entertain you, fine...be sure to take any technical suggestions he has with a little bit of salt. About this much should do the trick:

That is what I was thinking and expecting. I am sure, 2 to 4 weeks ago when the NDA's were signed, the developers at Adobe went home and kissed their significant others goodbye and send they will see them again in October

Adobe will be pressured to not only do what Canons applications can, but more.

As good as they may be, the Canon apps and libraries will be considered proof of concept for the Lightroom/Photoshop algorithm developers

I tend to agree re: Tony Northrup. It's worth noticing what he does do is demonstrate how high production values can make just about anything come across as credible and authoritative. He looks good! That's the take-home from Tony's videos for anyone in business. Keep production values high, and deliver everything you do with total confidence.

you know .. they don't say they will support the raw edits, only that they are working on supporting the raw format.

I did not see anything in the linked article about Canon releasing anything to Adobe. Was that posted elsewhere?

If you turn the feature on in your camera, information from both portions of the pixel are saved to the file and its twice as large. Adobe is perfectly capable of using that data for further processing, and likely will implement their own version which will differ from Canon's. Having that data to process may result in additional features that DPP does not provide.
