I assume you are talking about having his hand reversed (palm out instead of palm in).

It is actually more stable like that, but you effectively lose the ability to move the focus ring (or zoom ring if applicable). Not to say you can't manually focus, but the act of doing so introduces more movement than you save by having your hand like that, so if you need to you will be better off with a more traditional grip.

That is interesting, at 1:28 the taped camera has the old 24-70L and what seems to be a follow focus (or something else that's just laying on the table), but the mode dial is the newer "push button" type.

Sure it's available for 5D MkII as well, but you never know...
