Just got a call from my local dealer saying that they have received some EOS M3's in stock - two, I believe. I had asked them to notify me when the M3 arrived.
However, these M3's are in kits along with EF-M 18-55mm lenses. I have this lens already and therefore don't want a kit - I just want a body, or if they can offer me a kit with the M3 + EF-M 55-200mm lens (the only EF-M lens I don't have) I'll take that.
Looking around on-line, this doesn't appear to be a unique problem. I can understand the original EOS M only being sold in kit form because the lens mount was a new design and no one had any existing lenses.
But an updated body with the same lens mount only sold in kit form. What is the rationale behind that? What about the users who already have lenses and just want to upgrade their bodies? Why is Canon insisting that they also buy a lens that they have already, or they don't want? If this happened with a new FF or APS-C body, users would be up in arms.
I don't know what Canon is playing at with the EOS M. The system isn't available at all in some geographies and only partially available in other geographies, and now they won't sell a body-only version of the updated M. The marketing of the EOS M has been a complete joke.
The price I was given for the kit was 20,900 Thai Baht. The lens by itself retails for 7,000 Thai Baht - quite a lot for something I don't need or want. I'm just about to go to see the dealer to see if a suitable solution can be found.
