Looks to be a general Canon promotional event not a product announcement. Probably similar to the "Live Learning" events that Canon puts on in the U.S.

+1, doesn't look like an announcement, just Canon waving their flag.

Professional forum says it all. Not a an announcement

And here for a short moment I was getting my hopes up, albeit it seems for no good reason. :'(

The englisch translation is absolutely right. Even if you read the german text very carefully, there is not the slightest hint to a product announcement, all it says is that it is just a simple presentation of the canon products.

Maybe the "surprise" is on that theme - but that Canon might license its Autofocus to Zeiss to allow Zeiss to make EF-mount Autofocus lenses - or am I just dreaming?

nothing in that comment indicates that zeiss has something to do with it.

he just wrote that his former uni pals are now working for canon and told him about a suprise from canon.

The surprise is their newest and best Image Stabilization system. See the demo:

And if the image stabilization fails, you end uppity egg on your face...

They have special chicken feed that's approved by Canon and has been tested with a large number of limited beta test chickens and has shown to improve their performance by .001%. Oh, and if you fee it anything else, it's been trained to start wobbling and randomly ceasing to function until you start to feed it Canon chicken feed.
