justification for buying a 5D4

Speaking personally, I can't justify buying a 5D4 in any terms other than "I want" because, well, I WANT a 5D4 even tho' I'm perfectly happy with my 5D3 and it's got plenty of life still in it and it's fully capable of doing everything I have wanted to do with it.

Given what you do with your current camera, what would be your reason/justification for buying a 5D4?

The only justification one needs is that one wants one. This isn't a moral decision. There are reasons for wanting a 5D Mark IV, justification has nothing to do with it. Nothing.

Now somebody will say that if buying the camera means a man's children starve that the purchase is not justified. The camera still isn't the problem, but is instead a symptom of a much deeper problem. That still has nothing to do with the camera.

One doesn't have to justify a purchase to himself or anyone else. He might want to, but it is not a required exercise.

My justification has always been: I want it.

Justification to my wife has always been: I need it.
No more detail than that. Details get you into trouble.

Do you want to buy? Looking for us to push you over the edge?

Coming from a 5D2 the professional AF and the better built of the 5D3 were the major reasons.

For me a better IQ over the whole ISO range esp. at higher ISO (>3200; yes, not everybody does landscapes at base ISO) would be tempting, if I could easily recognize it without pushing any shadows like mad etc.
An even better AF would round it up.

Those two features would be my justification.
Other features is define as expected "standard" (e.g. anti flicker, few FPS more (1 or 2)) or not relevant for me (4K, GPS, WiFi), although nice to have.

But still it needed some time with good rebates and cashback promotions.
I have time, I love my 5D3 and right now I am planing to skip one body generation.

A little many "hard facts" to a philosophical question...

As most have said - because I want one.

In my particular case, because I want a faster frame rate and faster auto-focus system. Last weekend I shot a dive meet with my 6D and would like to compare to a camera with 6 fps or above. Over all, it didn't do bad, but I didn't get many of those definitive shots during flips, etc. due to the camera's frame rate. When I lucked on my timing, the results were very good.

On a side note, I also shot with my 60D and the results were pretty good too. I may be fine with an 80D or 7DI/II.

7Dii will be much better at catching the moment/timing and less AF missing. 6D AF misses/loses focus in a burst, frequently. With a low fps + high out of focus rate = extremely low keeper rate and burn through a TON of frames. But, like you said, you can make it work. If you aren't doing paid work and rarely shoot action then I wouldn't be too concerned.

:) :) :) Yeah, but the question sort of reminds me of the, "What lens should I take to the beach." sort of threads from people with a collection of L lenses that maybe they've never used before. Thus, their confusion. ::) :) :)

The difference being that at least the lenses exist. :o

Full-time red AF point illumination....

This. The red af points on my 1DXII are amazing. I didn't think it would be a huge deal (coming from a 7D2) but now I think it'll be hard to switch back to the 7D2 as my second body.

With the 80D and the 1DXII being so great, I wouldn't expect nothing but spectacular with the 5DIV. Let's hope that canon puts in AF point linked spot metering in the 5DIV.
