Looking for new lens for vacation

I have a 5d iii with 24-70 ii, 70-200 2.8 ii

I am going to disney and am considering a prime just not sure which one. I also miss having is in the shorter focal range.

Thinking of
35mm f2 is
35mm sigma 1.4 sounds heavy so may not be travel friendly
24-70 f4 is


Any other thoughts are welcomed

Why would you take a fast wide prime to Disney?

Given the 2 zooms you are already packing, the only thing in prime land I would add is the 135L, if anything.

I am really confused here. I love my 16-35, but Disney is not about those stunning landscapes. Disney is about your kids having fun. There is no point in going shorter. You want something that can take pictures from afar, if possible with good color, local contrast and bokeh. Everything else will just slow you down.

Your question is sort of vague. Are you taking the two zooms you mentioned? Or do you want to leave those two and bring one of the ones you mentioned as options? Or are you bringing both zooms and want one more lens?

I would say, just bring a 24-105. It's good enough in the quality department and gives you both decent wide angle and a little telephoto. My second choice would be the 24-70 f4 IS and my third the 30mm 1.4. (This is assuming you are leaving the two zooms you own at home, which is what I think you are saying.)

+1. When I went to Disney, I mostly used the 17-55 f/2.8. I lugged a friend's 70-200 II, which was primarily used for stage shows and parades. If I were to go back, I'd consider leaving the 70-200 II home. I would suggest getting a fast 35 prime. It's nice for night time activities. Large aperture matters more than IS in this context because most of those pictures will have people in them and someone is almost always moving.

EDIT: Actually the 70-200 came in handy for animal kingdom too. If you have a secure place to lock up gear (and insured), then it's feasible to only bring a lens or two at any outing in the parks.

Take your 70-200, and get either a 16-35 or a 17-40. Cover the 40 to 70 with a few steps either way.

If I were there taking pictures of you and family, I'd have the 17-40 on most of the time. Up close and personal with the people, and the backgrounds are all there and in decent focus. Five years from now you'll look back at the pictures, see yourselves AND get a good look at where you were.

If you want a fast prime, stay home and do the blurred-out portraits there!

On what body? With a apsc body but unsure if it will be too wide on ff.

I would bring the zooms leaving the 70-200 in the room for a few days. Just looking for a few lighter gear days so was thinking 24-70 f4 is, 35mm prime like the f2 is or other suggestions. I am all about getting mickey and my twins in focus so wide apertures are not going to help me with that i usually sit 5.6-10 when shooting outdoors to get them in focus.

Ok so never had a uwa before. So if I get close it will be easier to grab more of the character shots up close?

Also this is for july so do you think I should see what else Canon drops by then? Maybe a 70d with revamped 18-300 would be nice for the trip. Just wishful thinking.

+1 on the 24-105.

Since you're considering the 24-70 f4 IS because it is smaller/lighter compared to the 24-70 II you already have, I would get the 24-105 since it is just slightly heavier (2.5 oz) than the 24-70 f4. You get a little more reach and arguably better optics than the 24-70 f4, especially in the 35-50mm range:

As for the 35 f2 IS vs. the Sigma 35 1.4, I think you answered your own question. Since you generally want more DOF at a place like Disneyland, you probably won't be using 1.4 too much. As you said, you usually sit between 5.6-10 when photographing your family. I'm also thinking lots of stationary poses which would be good for IS and low-light hand-holdable shooting. Also, while not 1.4, f2 is plenty fast when you want to compensate for motion blur, especially since you can safely crank up the ISO on your 5DM3.

If portability is your primary consideration, you could get the 40mm 2.8 pancake. Great optics, tiny, and inexpensive! In fact, I would bring it along as a backup. It easily fits in your pocket.
