Moon photos

Sunday evening's Blood moon.

Taken from Bellevue beach, Copenhagen (Denmark).
Shot with R3 + EF 200-400 f/4 + EF 2xTC + RF 2xTC = 1600mm, f/16. Shutter was 0.8sec, ISO 25.600. For some reason the R3 refused to go slower than the 0.8sec. I'm suspecting that I set the viewfinder to be exposure simulating.

Edit: found it. Enabling Panning Assist limits the exposure time to 0.8 sec.

Getting the R3 to autofocus on the moon itself was pretty hopeless, so I cheated by using a ship some kilometers out on the water as a target. I might have missed getting to the hyperfocal distance right.

I found a photo taken a bit earlier where the moon is barely visible having over the two ships in the sound. Going to try to process it and see if I can get something usable out of it.

Seems I can't get DxO denoise and DPP to play ball together, so it's either or

The moon is above the bow of the left ship.
I've turned down the blue channel (a lot) to make the moon stand out more.

R3, RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Z, 0.5 sec f/2.8 iso 100

Hence the words "barely visible".

The timestamp says 20:24 while the closeup is taken 20:47. Technically, the moon came up over the horizon almost an hour before, but it was just impossible to see it until it got dark enough.

Last Night's Super Hunter Harvest Moon.

R5, EF 600mm f/4 + EF2x TC III and a little cropping.


Due to the extreme contrast range, for this last shot I had to take two exposures, one for the clouds, one for the moon, then combine in post. R5, EF 600mm f/4, no crop.

Yep.I prefer that one also. I'm not sure why I keep taking shots of the full moon with no background. They all look the same. It's just a compulsion.
