Isn't it the same with camera bodies ?
So far, Canon has introduced new body models at lower prices each version or, in the case of the 1 series, a slightly higher price. I call it the Polaroid Ploy. Sell the camera cheaply and sock it to them on the film. Same for Printers and ink ot toner.
With DSLR's, its sock it to them on lens prices - same basic idea. However, we do have 3rd party lens manufacturers who do put a limit on how high Canon can raise their prices before a mass exodus of buyers hits.
