CPW had called these permanent price (MAP) reductions as opposed to instant rebates, on the 5DIII, 6D, 24-70/2.8 II and 70-200/2.8 IS II.

FWIW, the Canon USA website now shows the lower prices for the 5DIII, 6D, and 24-70/70-200 MkII (e.g., $3099 for the 5DIII).

OK. Since this is a rumor site, I solicit gut feelings. I want a second Canon body to complement my 1Dx (a little lighter, a backup, possibly better resolution). Do these cuts mean that if I buy the 5D III, there will be a 5D IV within 6 months, with a better sensor and other wonderfulness? Buy or wait?

I feel your pain (a little bit); I upgraded to the 70-200 II in July, but with the $300 MIR and $50 B&H Reward, it was only $50 more than the current price, and I've gotten a lot of use out of it in the meantime.

Yes, by all means, buy a 5D III now! I want the 5D IV to come out soon, so I can get a 2nd 5D III when it drops to its clearance price after the 5D IV is announced. 8)

Show me the person who paid 3200US for a 5d3 body. Thats beyond ridiculous. Its been 2800 for some time.

Also show me the lunatic who would pay 700+ for a t5i.

Maybe im a tiny bit seasoned on hardware costs, but these rebates are disingenuous at BEST.
Lastly, the price difference between the 6d and 5d3 is just psychotic. its damn near double the cost. I cant wait to see the 6d replaces, the AF is just embarrassing. Im preaching to quior, i know, but cmon...

I guess the 7d for 1k is a steal also...sheesh.

Every early adopter paid that much for the Mk3. We all have differing reasons for our purchases and the timing of them as well. I personally think my 5d3 is worth every penny of the 2999 I paid.

While some wait for the price of a new camera or lens to drop a couple of hundred dollars, I'm out using and enjoying mine. Well worth it. ;D
