So for sensor technology this doesn't mean necessarily mean very much improvement in regards to quality of low ISO still images. I wouldn't expect too much in this regard.

There will be a successor for the 7D on Photokina. How it will be called is not yet know. It stays APS-C. It will have the AF software of the 1Dx.
That's what I got from information 2 days ago.
So, no need for plan B, just plan A (selling my 7D).

together with the hype around "canon will do something historical" or "a big change in canons history" (as mentioned a few times at CR).... i would be disappointed by only a updated dualpixel technology.

The mk2 only has to be a crop 5Dmk3 with faster FPS and not cost a fortune to sell a lot of them . . .
Seriously, if they did nothing more than update to all of the current tech (dual pixel, better high iso, newer AF) for the refresh, yes, the dissenters will be loud, but in reality, few.
The only thing Canon can really do wrong here is botch the release or not release it at all.
Plan B: Use existing gear that works fine (a 5Dmk3).
Plan C: Not sure, but Plan C should always involve a chainsaw, if only to ensure you don't need a Plan D.

Plan B involves saving up to a 1D X, or something of that kind.
The biggest interest I have in Photokina now, is to see in what direction they're heading, and how fast they are getting there, I hope, and expect, to be pleasantly surprised.

Since it will have a new name... not necessarily a 7D "Mark II"...
I don't know how true its going to be to the original... nor does Canon have to create one that will satisfy all users... so I'm expecting some let downs...
For example, it might not come with dual-processors, it might have less weather sealing...

My T3i fills my photography needs very well but I do a lot of videos with it and I am looking forward to upgrade to a reasonably priced camera having much better low light performance and a better video codec (more color information, less compression artefacts). I do not expect these to be found on the 7D MK II.
So I will keep shooting using my T3i until I find a suitable upgrade that meets my needs. I can't justify the price of the C100 for what is just a hobby for me.
The Sony A7S looks like a potential contender.

As a 40D + 400mm f/5.6 user for bird photography, I doubt the 7DII will not meet my expectations. If it does not, or if it is too expensive, then my plan B is to get a 7D for supposely half the price of a 7DII.
