Should Canon buy Samsung sensor-tech?

There was a rumor saying that Canon was testing sensors from other companies. Now that Samsung is going, could Canon buy Samsung sensor tech, or rights to their patents? Perhaps even their fabrication facilities? Just a thought...

That's not even a starter. Samsung Semiconductor is not even remotely interested in selling their sensor production. The sensors they producted for their DSLR's is such a tiny part of the business that it does not even register.

Samsung could buy Canon though. Samsung is worth $200 billion, while Canon is worth $50 Billion

The rumor that Canon is considering outsourcing their sensor production is more likely to happen, but that is still less than 10%.

...

Japan lets itself be bought by South Korea?

Not going to happen :)
Esp. when the rumors are true that Samsung wants to quit system camera market.

I don't think so. IMO Canon are in panic mode again, with the possibility of their flagship 2016 releases being overshadowed by Nikon, just as the 7DII was stalled as a result of the imminent release of the GH4.

They get ready to release a flagship camera, then realize that the competition is about to release something better, and it ends up with them stalling for a bit while they decide to release as is or wait some more and develop an improved version.

IMO 2016 is going to be yet another year that Canon gets caught on the back foot. It is probably the reason why the 5D4 keeps on getting pushed back and back.

Of course it won't, its just as unlikely as Canon buying Samsung Semiconductor. Canon might farm out sensor production to Samsung though.

Samsung isn't selling any useful sensor tech to anyone. They are very much in the sensor business, and they aren't about to give their knowledge away. If true, I wonder just what Nikon got. Perhaps high speed circuitry designs for less than what Sony would have charged them. Basic stuff for Sony or Samsung but for nikon... And I don't want to hear about how Nikon always had their own chip mods that were so great. If you are willing to believe that some guys a Nikon can show Sony a thing or two about this stuff you are willing to believe just about anything.
canon is in panic mode? Wha? The 5dmk4 has been pushed back many times? Wha? The 7dmk2 was overshadowed by some tweeker camera that I've never even in the wild?

Nikon has acquired samsung apparently

The rumor says no such thing.

It says Nikon bought the rights to Samsung mirrorless technology, and will be having their sensors made by Samsung. There is no way that Nikon could buy Samsung Semiconductor, much less Samsung, which is 10X their size.

Its a good move, likely because Sony is overcharging for their sensors. We may also see Canon buying sensors from someone, maybe even Samsung.

Just curious, where did you get that someone would buy Samsung semiconductor? I did not say that in my OP, I said sensor tech (and a few mabyes, like fab. facilities, though loose ideas), yet you argue against that from the first post. It seems like Nikon is getting rights to Samsung sensor tech, and rumors also state that Samsung have a FF sensor ready for mirrorless camera. Also, if Nikon is getting the rights to all Samsung NX-tech, and Samsung continues to develop their sensors (as states in the tumors), Nikon may have made a massive leap to the front of the Mirrorless market.
Exiting times!
