"Suggestions of a Canon MF announcement of some sort at Photokina [PB]
Although an actual product announcement seems unlikely, a 'technology demo' or concept camera might appear.
With the likely arrival of a replacement for the 7d, I' wonder if any other significant product would be held over, so as not to distract from the 'big event' ? - a 7D2 and a move to MF would certainly get the headlines though."

How much of a demand could there be for such a camera? There is all this talk and hype, but anybody have a guess at all? With the cost of them and perhaps new lens designs etc., I can't see this as a huge seller. I may be way off base here. What segment would want them.

Thanks- just curious, not intending a flame war.

It would be much easier for Canon or Nikon to purchase a maker of MF cameras if they want to go that way. They gain a compete system along with lenses, and a user base. Then they can develop it and add Canon lenses and accessories over time.

I hope its not true, because Canon has a small lens design team, and new EF lens releases have already been almost stopped due to resources diverted to Cinema lenses. Developing and producing MF lenses would likely totally halt new EF lenses.

I seriously doubt this rumor. Canon seems to be more about the evolution and merging of the "moving image" with stills photography. Their highest end professional products are in this area. Why go after a tiny "medium format" market? Medium format digital cameras aren't even medium format! This just sounds like sensor geek fantasy talk.

What about the possibility of Canon entering the Medium Format sensor market?

By providing sensors to existing MF systems, Canon would avoid the burden of creating its own lenses, backs, et cetera.

I know almost nothing about medium format, so to those more knowledgeable than me, could this be a more likely possibility, especially if Canon unveils some exciting new sensor tech with a 7DII (read high pixel density, high image quality)?
