T3i and 580 ex II. - not a perfect fit

Has anyone else experienced this...?

My 580 doesn't seem to fit perfectly on the t3i. Even if I slide the lever all the way to the right and lock it. Ever once in a while I get a completely white image because apparently the contacts weren't matching between the flash and the camera. When I reseat the flash by unlocking it and pushing it further on the mount and locking it again, it works fine. And..sometimes the flash doesn't fire at all...again, have to unlock, take it off,and reseat the flash.

Thoughts?

The 580 EX II has weather sealing. That shroud around the bottom of the flash terminal can make installing it a bit stiff.
