This comment has made me curious as I thought RF focused as well at f/4 as it does at 2.8. So I presume that with what you were shooting you could get away with minimal Dof all the time ?

Not sure I understand your question. My decision to use the f/2.8 lens was purely for the extra stop of light when necessary, not for autofocus or depth of field, however those were both welcome enhancements.

In response to your statement about f/4 focusing as well as f/2.8 it's still a stop of light that's being lost during autofocus. So, at a certain point, you will find a situation where there isn't enough light to focus each lens. That will come at 1-stop of exposure in measured light.

Finally, yesterday I have got mine!
I have bought it from Adorama... ordered the first day of the announcement, but not super early because of a card issue. They charged my card monday and shipped it tuesday.
It is more svelte than the 85 1.2 and lighter, but longer. As you all know.
I have taken 2 random images just to prove it works. I was planning to use it this weekend but I have come down with a flu so I am not sure I will be able to

Curious if anyone has a comparison between the RF 135mm and the Sigma 135mm Art. I've seen tons of comparisons with the EF 135mm f/2 but haven't seen any with the Sigma (except for one on Youtube that was too "casual" to be useful to me).

eh don't be, yours will come!
I did use it at a bday party of one of my daughter's classmates... but it was a very dark venue and a small one at that, so the 1.2 primes would have been a bit more suited to the task. Happy with the AF though, it is super fast! And love the rendition when the images turned out technically ok

In the end I did use it sunday, but I feel I have put it at a bit of a disadvantage compared to my 1.2 primes (too dark venue) so more testing needed.

I've been able to get excellent sharpness at 1 second with the 135/1.8. How dark is a venue you can't shoot 1.8 in when you can easily shoot 1/30 and often longer?

1/30 won't work well with kids running around - I did indeed mention that it was a bday party in another post

In Belgium, I received my lens on February 27th. Pre order dated from November 2 2022.
However, I have a problem registering it on my account at Canon. The system says the serial number is not valid.
I have contacted Canon, and wait for their answer.
By the way : this lens is heaven !

Hi fellow Belgian ;-) I cancelled my pre-order and bought one in a local shop that had one in stock (Coudenys, Zedelgem) last Friday. Never registered a lens though... Should I?

Canon Europe tends to need a few weeks between shipping the lens to customers and updating their serial number validator. For the RF100-500 I had 2 Canon departments point at each other, so I gave up on reporting these issues and just re-try the registration every month :/

Canon's web portals are as useful as ever. Over a decade ago, I bought the EF 70-200/2.8L IS II right at launch. I went to register the lens online and got an error because the date I entered (which was the date the lens arrived in my hands) was 'before the lens was available for retail sale'. Sure, Canon...the lens is in my hands but it's not available yet.

Registration is basically meaningless, what you need to do is keep your proof pf purchase.

If you register your products on the Canon site (CPS), you can earn points, and ultimately this allows you to have more speedy repairs if needed.
I used it once, back in the old days with my Canon 1Dmkiii, which had problems upon delivery, and canon put another one at my disposal waiting for the repair.

Hmm, here in Tokyo I ordered Jan 29 got it Feb 3 I think. I actually didn't consider buying it until a couple days after it went on sale. I don't register on-line, didn't know there was such a thing.

The lens is absolutely fantastic. Hand-held at 1/30, it is very reliably sharper than the EF135/2 EVER is. Again: the new one's worst at 1/30 is better than the old one's best at ANY speed.

Also, wide open, the deep corners of the new one are sharper at 55 lp/mm than the center of the old one.

But the 100-500 is also pretty close in there. And the RF100 Macro.
