The Digital Picture resolution tests were posted yesterday. Obviously results are good, but not quite as good as the EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS II.

Also according to the tests, the results of the lens deteriorate significantly at 70mm. They appear to be worse than the old EF 24-70 f/2.8L at that focal length.

Look at the 2nd sample, the 24-70 II is good. Their 1st sample seems to be a dud.

This does highlight what an amazing lens the 70-200 f/2.8L IS II is!

I think I'll stick with my 24-70 f/2.8L I and my 70-200 f/2.8L IS II - I can't really see any compelling reason to shell out another £2000 for the 24-70 f/2.8 L II

I find this odd, when I tested the lens I found 70mm to be the sharpest focal length on the lens. It does seem to be much sharper at f/3.2 than f/2.8 though.

I don't always trust the Digital Pictures chart tests, there is more to a lens's performance than a test chart. Some of their Zeiss charts look horrible but when you use them in real-life situations they look absolutely incredible. I will say that their tests on longer lenses seem to be more accurate than their tests on shorter ones.

Bryan tested 2 lenses. One performed better at the wider end; the other better at the longer end.

EOS 24-70 II QC issue again!!!

The lens review can't be completed due to different performance with 2 lens, see detail: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=3081

So disappointed with this lens after so many years of waiting and price increase, the-digital-picture.com shows the same test result as photozone.de on 70mm -- "there's an almost surprising drop in border quality at 70mm with resolution figures that are inferior compared to the old version of the lens".
