7D is over-due for an update. Every decent canon crop camera has it sensor now, and produces = IQ.

I think we'll see the 5dII successor simply for them to try and one-up the D600. We might see the new 70D, but, it'll basically be the old 7D with the new sensor AF and a weaker body

We usually get a lot more buzz if a major new EOS body is going to be announced... I cannot say if there will be anything worthwhile on that front...

But while you are at it Canon... let us know when you can begin selling us the new 24-70ii's.

I'm with K-amps on this one.

Ideally it'd be a 70D (basically a 7D/60D merge). I agree (from other threads) with others that the new firmware on the 7D means there's no immediate successor.

The new FF camera would be ideal, but they're going to have to make an affordable FF in such high volume (closer to that of the crop bodies) that I suspect we'll hear more chatter first.

Barring that, I'd vote for another price-prohibitive lens and/or really entry-level gear.

whilst i'd love the 7d2 to be announced, my honest feeling is that they'll not announce anything of consequence. i think we would have heard more in the way of rumours if they were going to release stuff.

I'm afraid they will show nothing significant. The lens will be the star. They got caught with their pants down by the Nikon 800e. I think they were ready to show some stuff but it was outclassed when Nikon upped the ante for the same price as a 5DIII. I think they will regroup and have something to show soon but all of the choices suggested don't make sense. The real whole in their lineup is aging middle with the 60D and 7D now 3 years old, but if they go FF they kill of sales of the over priced 5DIII. If they go mega pixels the 1DX line looks silly with an 18MB sensor. the 7D got a firmware face lift. What could they do with the 70D? slightly better sensor? Tweak the focus? big deal. If you were saving for a FF at $2,000 save a bit more the 5DIII will probably drop in price before Christmas. Maybe $3,000, maybe less. Beach Camera had 200 of them for $2,800 last week. Something is wrong somewhere or sales are really strong on the 7D and 60D. 3 years is a record for not refreshing a line. Especially their advanced amateur line. Like I said, I think Nikon really caught them with their pants down.

Maybe on the 5D3, yes. But amateurs really aren't the big buyers of the 5D3 and D800, so I'm going with more of an entry-level type camera to be announced, maybe.

What about the 1DX? When I'm at a football game and all the Nikon users are packing their bags and I'm still clicking off at 1/2000s, the "Canon Camp" really whipped the sh*t out of Nikon on that one. The 1DX is better than any Nikon camera, past or present, period. Maybe not completely for portrait/landscape, but who cares? When you can get that much detail out of an 18 MP sensor, it really doesn't matter. Nikon has absolutely no match at all, with any camera, to match the 1DX's ISO, detail, and AF performance. Yes, the D800 maybe is better than the 5D3, but the 1DX is better than every Nikon camera, period. If you don't believe this, please rent one and go shoot a night game or do some portrait work with it. In my book, Canon wins over all Nikon cameras with their 1DX. Why does that not count for anything, but the D800 vs. 5D3 bullshit still rages on? What about 1DX whipping everything?

To play devils advocate here, it's not that it doesn't count for anything...it's just, I can have one of each of the 5dIII and D800 for the price of the 1DX. There's a reason the $3000 cameras get argued more than the $7000 camera...more users. Likewise its the same reason why the D600 v whatever Canon puts out will be debated twice as much as the D800 v 5dIII was; more people can afford it.

It seems very quiet for an imminent announcement. Sounds like Nikon will make their announcement/announcements around Sept. 13. Almost all the details of the Nikon full frame entry level camera seem to be confirmed, yet there are no solid rumors of the Canon. I'm thinking Canon Rumors Guy's October date is more likely. I'd like to be wrong, but I'm afraid I won't be.

I think next up with be either the 70D or the 7DII or both.

As an aside, what is a "Real higher iso full frame." I don't think current technology allows much higher than what is already available in the 5DIII or 1DX. Certainly Nikon hasn't been able to match Canon in high ISO performance, so what would Canon be announcing?

There have been multiple Rebels launched since the 60D, so 70D is next in line, especially as Canon is now more interested in volume-selling. The 7D mark II can wait until 2013, when the 7D will be 4-years old.

Enthusiasts/Pro's have had 2 new flagship products already in 2012 - the 1DX and the 5DIII, they're unlikely to get any more

The marketing people (who really run Canon) will want to leave the 5D2 as the 'budget' FF camera. Why would they shoot themselves in the foot and introduce a $2000 FF body -> that would both hurt 5D3 sales and ruin any chance of a similarly priced APS-C body (aka 7D2, which will likely cost $2500 or 7D1 + $1000)

Finally, as the T4i/650D shows, Canon do not have a new crop sensor yet. So there is no point in a 7D2 without a new sensor with better ISO performance and DR. Therefore the only possible choice (if any at all) will be an 18MP 70D with similar AF to current 7D, 'tilty-swivelly' screen, semi-plastic/semi-metal body, with all of the latest features & functionality that firmware 2.0 for the existing 7D recently brought...and oh yeah... compatibility with STM lenses and continuous AF during video recording. It might even be able to trigger the new 600EX-RT flashes too.

Simple logic combined with an equally simple process of elimination suggest that a 70D @ $999 price point is the most likely new camera body announcement at Photokina by Canon.
