Received a week ago the 5DIII body I ordered recently (plus battery grip and 24-70 f/2.8 II lens). It is an amazing combo and have had great time playing with it, but encountered two annoying malfunctions:

1) The auto rotate does not work - some of the images at the beginning were rotating, but now none does. The setting is properly selected (auto rotate in both camera and computer).

2) The electronic level froze - it was working at the beginning (although I did not check whether it was functioning correctly), but now it froze so I can't use it either on the display or in the view finder.

Have any of you encountered these problems and if so, did you manage to resolve them (without sending the camera back to the shop or to Canon service)?

Sounds like the position sensor is not working.

I'll bet the orientation-linked AF point function doesn't work either. Orientation-linked AF point function lets the camera move the AF point to a pre-selected point depending on whether the camera is held vertically or horizontally. It also relies on the position sensor.

Tgara, it already went back to the shop, so I could not check your assumption.

By the way, just to mention that before returning the faulty 5D MkIII I had to send for replacement also the 24-70 f2.8 II. There was a little artifact, either on the inner side of the front element or within the glass of the front element. Could have been a dust speck which got in during manufacturing. Opened the box, saw it, packed it and sent it back. The replacement seems fine.
