Update on the Canon RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM

Would this be the most expensive non-L RF lens?
Yes. Previously, the 70-300 DO was the most expensive, launching at $1150. The TS-E 45/2.8 and TS-E 90/2.8 (original, non-L) launched at $1100 in 1991 (but that’s $2500 today adjusted for inflation). The MP-E 65 currently lists for $1050. Until now, that is all of the non-L lenses launching at >$1000.

Even as an owner of the RF 100-500mm, this lens is still interesting to me. But it seems pretty hefty at 4.5 lb / 2 kg! I'll wait for reviews before purchasing, but I'm sure my GAS will take over and I'll get one.

On a separate note: the RF 24-105mm f/2.8 and this lens really diverge from the typical RF lens exterior designs, and each in different ways. IMO they look funky, but hey, if the images from them come out stellar, who cares.

Pre-Order in at B&H:love:. Just about everything anyone was wishing for. Weather sealing, Nano USM, Rear Focus, Extender Compatible, White, Good Close Focus, Hood and Tripod Ring included, and cheaper than we thought. Case and filter are the only extras. Interesting that it is not a DO lens after all.

For your reference, Nikon Z 180-600 is just under 2kg, Sony 200-600G is heavier than RF 200-800. So it's reasonable

I'm a bit intrigued as well. I'd buy now if I didn't have the RF100-400 & 100-500 + TC. This lens is really what I expected, except I thought it might have a separate focus and control ring. Not unhappy that it doesn't either way. Has the programmable buttons (1 option) at a time, and the MF/Control Ring switch like we saw on the RF 24-240. Their semi-hybrid design which seems to be more popular now. It uses 90%x100% for AF depending on the body and TC's work the full FL range. Collar and hood too. I feel like the price is very reasonable also.

Well, I said the 200-800mm, would be weather sealed, and it made absolutely no sense that it would not be. Canon's product video, shows sealing gaskets throughout the lens. Yes, I said the fuzzy pic looked a bit like an internal zoom, but noted that it looked shorter than the Sony and Nikon 600mm zooms, so was either an extending zoom, or had some sort of DO design or other innovation.
