B&H Photo has their first used copy of the RF 100-300mm f/2.8L IS USM in stock. Being that it is still a hard-to-find lens in some locations, there isn’t a huge discount on buying it used. Any savings is good savings though. Canon RF 100-300mm f/2.8L IS USM Canon RF 100-300mm f/2.8L IS USM $9250

A saving of $250 on a $9500 item is ... well, not attractive IMHO. If I was in the market for an RF100-300, I would walk right past the used lens and pick up the pristine, new, lens.
Exactly, I would do exactly the same even if I had to wait 3-4 months. A savings of 2.6% on a. used item with no manufacture warranty is not very enticing for the buyer. Great for the seller if you can find someone willing to buy it.

I agree, not to mention the risk of it being for sale because it was someone else's problem lens. Anyone who would jump at this "bargain" really isn't in the market for this lens, $250 is as my good friend and client Ross Perot Sr. used to say, "sand on the beach........".

Seems really unlikely that anyone would realistically believe someone would 'jump at this' because it's a 2.3% discount from the price of a new lens, including B&H who is selling it. I bet even your good friend and client Mr. Dropped Name knows a complete straw man argument when he sees one.

However, the used lens is actually available for purchase, and the new lens is not available from any major retailer in North America. It's the same reason there have been 3rd party (non-authorized) sellers listing the RF 10-20/4 on Amazon for $300-400 more than list price...supply and demand.

The cost of a lens is what you pay minus what you sell it for. Even a 2% savings may cut the cost of owning this lens for say six months in half. I've bought nearly all my gear (music instruments, camera equipment, even cars) used-mint and never regretted it. For a given total cost of ownership you can get literally twice the stuff.
