White residue on 1DX top dial?

My 1DX is exhibiting some sort of white residue buildup on the top dial, but it stays clean on the ridges where I touch it the most.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm going to send the camera in for service anyway, but I was wondering if this is something else that others have seen. It seems like it might be related to the problem that caused T4i's to be recalled.

I would agree with you on this one. Haven't experienced it on any of my camera's.

Your dial is just jealous of the white L lenses, its trying its best, give it a break!

But no, i havent seen that on any canon camera I've owned.

Not really... not that I've noticed, at least. If that were the case, shouldn't I see the same residue in other recessed areas on the camera body? It's not present on any part of the camera except the top dial.

Also of note, the dial has also turned white on its underside, where sweat or any other liquid would ordinarily be able to get to. A photo of the underside:

Not seen this myself but I do have something similar on the focus/zoom rings of some of my L lenses

You can probably get rid of the residue with a cue-tip and mild application of vinigar.

It is just sweat on the dial from your finger... just clean it off with some rubbing alcohol or water and a washcloth/toothbrush and your good to go!
