Birdnet is another useful one, and eBird of course. Cornell is behind some of these great free apps. Merlin and Birdnet pick up the high pitched sounds that are now beyond my old ears.

I had a CDMA phone up until a couple of years ago and finally had to switch it to a 4G phone. The coverage of the 4G phone is substantially poorer than CDMA was, which makes sense, since they keep pushing the modulation levels, but it is still annoying.

Agreed, but back to the original subject, I doubt many R100 users have either of those use cases very high on their list. Frankly, I was surprised by how much of the new AF goodness Canon included all the way down to the R50. I just directed my neighbor into an R10 and he is amazed by the extent of the feature set.

Tbh my main one supports wireless charging (it's a bit slow though).Power banks solve almost all problems as long as you have the right cable
Switching my R5 to airplane mode helps as well

Once again I will agree to disagree! I almost never need to carry a charger because I ensure my phone is adequately charged before I leave the house, and I manage my power use so as to avoid running out before I return. But everyone's circumstances will vary.

I see Sibley is the North American equivalent of Collins. Much more convenient to have these as apps on your phone and iPad than to carry around as books and you can share them with the family. The apps also give the sounds. A small compensation for not having a replaceable battery.

If you think you might need more, you can buy a cheap tiny power bank that will plug into your phone for a tenner. Technology has moved on. With an iPhone you can switch into low power mode.

I used to carry the Stokes guide. I actually ran into Lillian Stokes on a mountaintop in New Hampshire, has a nice conversation. She was shooting with a 300/2.8L + 2x.

I never use it on my R5, not even for settings. I can't quite put my finger on it (pun intended) but for me Canon's touchscreen implementation always felt off.
I'm 100% sure I'm in the minority with that opinion as everyone always praises Canons touchscreen implementation. But from the first Rebels that had it to now in the R5, the screen seems to react unnaturally early, just before my finger actually presses down. Basically I find it too sensitive even on the "normal" setting. Never had that issue on any smartphone. Might be a personal thing, but that's why I never use it.

I very rarely use the touch screen also. It's nearly always turned in.

I’m the same. I don’t even use the touch screen to swipe through images, I prefer to physically toggle. On my iPhone and iPad it’s quite natural to swipe through, but of course those don’t have (the benefit of) a physical toggle !

I avoid using it, too. Mainly, I can only remember using it taking photos lower than squatting or higher than standing on my feet would get the camera & adjusting too many settings after the Q button. My niece (12) is not interested in using the viewfinder though...

I should hope so! I used on on a 7DII and it was good, nay very good. I also used the 300+2x on a 5DIII and got some of my best shots ever.

For a time, the EF 300mm f/2.8 + 2x TC was the only way of getting to 600mm at a wideish f-number and being hand holdable. I used it on the 22 Mpx 5DIII and got shots like this kingfisher. But, the 7DII gave it some extra reach.

Among lenses I would vote for either the RF 100-300 mm f2.8 or the RF 135 mm f1.8 (even though it was announced on Nov 2 2022 it was not available until January 2023).
