Would it be possible to make an EF-S 15mm f/2.8 Pancake?

Something similar in size and build to the 24mm and 40mm Pancakes at a comparable price? I want to get an SL1 and the pancakes for their compactness and I've noticed a lot of my shots full frame are shot at 24mm. A 15mm EF-S would give us a 24mm crop equivalent.

Imagine walking around with an SL1 with a pancake mounted and 2 more in your pocket. It would be great.

In a perfect world though, and this is me dreaming by the way, I'd love an updated SL1, we'll call it the SLx. Same dimensions as the SL1, but better ISO performance, more DR, and faster burst rate. I'd also love 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm equivalent pancakes. What a kit that would be.

I also have a dream with this hypothetical lens, but this is only technically possible with EF-M lens mount, where the distance between the bayonet and the sensor is smaller.

In an EF-S mounting a 15mm F2.8 lens would have to be larger than a pancake, because of requiring a higher number of optical elements, and it would be more expensive than the pancakes 24mm and 40mm.

However, I would like a hypothetical 15mm F2.8 with the same size of the nifty fifty, and costing $300

Ah, I see. I didn't know any of that technical stuff. A shame really.

Hypothetically, if I had that lineup, I'd probably leave my 5D3 home most days.

canon managed to eek out the 24mm EF-S pancake because they threw away the corners and most of the distortion / CA issues that it would have had in a full frame field of view.

however there's no more to give. a 2.8 would be big. regardless of EF-S or EF.

something like a 15/4 or so may work as far as keeping it small though.

I think it's not realistic now. Pentax did a good job with Limited series, and they have only slower 15/4 which isn't very slim. Probably they can do it in retractable form with large negative element moving forward.
