ZEISS to Announce New OTUS Series of Lenses for Mirrorless

Going to be a very tough market to enter now. Canon, Sony, and Nikon are producing lenses that match or exceed the sharpness standard set by Otus back in the DSLR days. Just look at the RF 85mm f/1.2L…and it has autofocus. There’s obviously more to a lens than just sharpness, but it does make me wonder who is waiting to get these lenses when the first part and Sigma primes are so incredible.

Certain compromises have to be made in order to have good AF, the focuing lens groups need to be smaller and lighter.
Therefore, most of those lenses have high resolution, but they aren't APO or focus breathing corrected.
And focus-by-wire manual focusing is still nothing like full mechanical, which is a lot better to mount on focus gears for cinema use.
This isn't something that needs much explaining, pretty much a more compact, more advanced series of something that was already quite succesful - despite being originally designed for DSLRs, where achieving perfect focus through the viewfinder is way more difficult.

My top three all time favorites included a Zeiss, until the RF 135 f1.8 L came out, Zeiss ZE 100 f2 MP. An absolutely stunning lens that I really haven’t found anything that can match , it wasn’t on top because no AF and some fringing wide open, but it’s a truly incredible lens.

I would love an Otus version of that in f1.4 and I would buy a 28 f1.4 in the Otus range. The color and pop and smoothness, in lack of a better word, of the Zeiss lenses are unmatched to me.

A side note is that the RF 85 f1.2 L is also on that list.

I have the 100MP and couldn't agree more. I also have the 135 Sonnar which is amazing as well. My all time fave is the 21 Distagon though, I shoot fairly wide most of the time.
