From Northlight
I just received this info, appears it's from Northlight. The 1Ds4 COULD appear in February as well as the new lowend dslr's.

Whenever it's launched, we can expect the 1Ds4 to come “with lenses”.

Interesting tidbit, the 1Ds Mark III received a “new” tag on the Canon UK site.

*UPDATE*
A bunch of lenses have also received the “new” tag. Site issues it looks like.

APS-C DSLR Announcements [CR1]
Received some added information about the February 9, 2010 announcements.

The EF-S 60 f/2.8 Macro will be replaced with an IS version. This goes along with a patent we showed you earlier. The timing is probably good for such a lens.

January 9, 2010?
I previously posted about a January 9, 2010 announcement. I think something was lost in translation and the source actually meant February 9, 2010. I have received confirmation about the 2nd date. I think it'd be a longshot to make announcements on a Saturday in the middle of CES.

It'd be fun if I was wrong.

  1. If Canon has equalized the D3s in terms of high ISO performance, I doubt anyone will give a hoot about the pixel density of 1D4.

  2. I would put my money on a 2000D (1000D replacement) with the following specs:
    – 450d sensor (12.1MP)
    – Digic IV
    – video capability (limited to 720p)
    – Articulating screen (res may be around 460k pixels if not the 920k)

Not a wishlist, never would myself buying one, but it seems like it’s time for update.

  3. I don’t suppose anyone from Canon is listening, but I’d like you to make more use of the APS-H sensor – you are the only market leader with control over sensor manufacture, so the flexibility is there. It’s significantly bigger than APS-C, yet not suffering from the dodgy corners of many full frame lens/sensor combinations. And the coming new 14-24/2.8 would be wide enough for most.

Give me the 16MP sensor from the iD4 in a good solid body like the 7D, a good VF, and an emphasis on IQ rather than speed or high ISO, even 3 frames/sec would be enough….And I promise not to defect to …sshhh!…you know who…..

  4. The concept behind the eos 1000D seemed to be to keep development & production costs down by utilizing the production line and parts from the outgoing 400D. If Canon continue in this vein, the 2000D(?) should be 12MP, no video, and imminent. However the 1000D has not sold particularly well, so will they feel a need to incorporate video in its replacement?.

So its goodbye 450D, the 18 month cycle should see the 550D(?) coming at the end of 2010, but the 60D should be here quite soon. A harder one to call, as there needs to be good reason to upgrade from xxxD/Rebel/Kiss, but not cut into 7D sales.

  5. I don’t feel the reason to upgrade 1000D, unless for tougher body, better IQ or video, more endurable shutter or more accurate AF
