The Transcontinenta Group, distributor NiSi Benelux, introduces the all-new NiSi 9mm F2.8 ultra-wide angle for APS-C Sony FE, Canon RF, Nikon Z and Fuji-X mirrorless cameras as well as M4/3 cameras.

NiSi has long been known among professional photographers as one of the best manufacturers of high-quality “square” filters and filter holders for almost every camera brand and type of lens.  In recent years, NiSi has expanded its range to include circular filters, filters for luxury compact cameras from Sony, Ricoh and Fuji, a NiSi Close-up Lens Kit and an NM-180 Macro Focusing Rail. In early 2021, NiSi took the next step, using its technological know-how in manufacturing high-quality glass in developing NiSi's first lens, the NiSi 15mm F4.0 for full-frame mirrorless cameras. Today, with the 9mm F2.8, NiSi presents the second ultra-wide-angle lens with an angle of view of a whopping 113 degrees, for APS-C and M4/3 mirrorless cameras.

Made for the creative and demanding photographer

When designing the NiSi 9mm F2.8 ultra-wide angle, NiSi listened very carefully to the wishes and input of dozens of professional photographers who work with NiSi filters on their (wide-angle) lenses almost every day. For example, the optical design of this APS-C NiSi 9mm lens is completely tailored to the sensor in the mirrorless camera, so that image sharpness remains high from the centre to the edges of the image. The use of high-quality optical glass, four ED lens elements and a double aspherical element, not only ensure high detail sharpness, but also greatly reduce chromatic aberration and distortion. The lens is also well-corrected against distortion of bright points in the image (coma), making it ideal for astrophotography.  NiSi's in-house developed SA+ anti-reflection coating, protective hard coating, metal housing and metal bayonet ensure successful shots in a wide variety of conditions. NiSi has equipped the lens with a 10-blade, continuously adjustable aperture, making it possible to get a “sun star” at any aperture, from F2.8 to F16. This increases image sharpness, so diffraction can be avoided by having to stop down too far!

Designed for perfect manual focusing

With the NiSi 9mm F2.8 ultra-wide angle, extra attention has been paid to the manual focusing mechanism. The focusing travel is wide and turns surely and smoothly, allowing setting the correct distance with great accuracy. For longer distances, the effect is not readily apparent, but at the shortest focusing distance of just 20 centimetres, it certainly matters. At this short distance, a nice blurred background can be created at F/2.8 full aperture. Besides a clear distance scale on the lens, there is also a very practical depth-of-field control scale. This allows quick work with zone focusing or to set the exact distance for optimum results.

67mm filter thread for use of NiSi circular and square filters

To take the perfect landscape or architecture shots, the use of ND, GND and CPL filters is indispensable. While most ultra-wide-angle lenses have a large convex front lens and therefore filters cannot be screwed on, NiSi has managed to design the NiSi 9mm F2.8 to have a standard 67mm filter thread. This allows it to be used with the NiSi V7 filter holder for the 100mm ND and GND filters. NiSi circular 67mm filters can also be used directly on the lens.

  • 9mm lens for APS-C mirrorless cameras with an extra-wide angle of view of 113 degrees (belonging to a 13.5mm lens) and 100 degrees angle of view at M4/3 (belonging to an 18mm lens)
  • Available for Sony FE, Canon RF, Nikon Z, Fuji X and M4/3.
  • 10-blade aperture makes it possible to create a “sun star” at any aperture from F2.8 to F16.
  • Highly accurate and smooth-running manual focus
  • Very short minimum focusing distance of 20 centimetres
  • Focus ring with depth-of-field scale
  • High-quality optical glass lens elements, including 4x ED and 1x double aspherical
  • Good correction of aberration and coma, making it ideal for astrophotography
  • Low and easily correctable distortion
  • Full metal body and mount
  • 67mm filter thread for use of square and round filters.
  • Only 78mm long and weighing 364g.

  1. Surprised a bit that this hasn't drawn a little bit of attention. Imagine a nice 9 mm on a crop sensor, especially if it has good control of coma and such. Manual focus, no doubt, but could be useful for astro.
  2. Oh, but Canon doesn't allow third part RF lenses.
Try again, but do make some attempt to do some research first.

The NiSi is a manual lens. Canon does not prevent anyone manufacturing or selling manual RF lenses.

Wex lists 23 Laowa RF lenses, 2 Samyang RF lenses and 3 Kipon RF lenses, including:

    Samyang/Rokinon 14mm F2.8
    Samyang/Rokinon 85mm F1.4

    Kipon 24mm F2.4
    Kipon 50mm F2.4
