50years 300x284 - October 20, 2009 - 50 Years of Canon SLR.
Australia Event Invite - October 20, 2009

From Canon Australia
The event on the 20th of October in Australia is to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Canon SLR's. I can't think of a better way to ring in year 51 than with a new camera.

History Lesson
In case you were wondering what the first Canon SLR looked like, take a peak at my Canonflex.

  1. Nikon is doing their usual treading water routine between big releases — but yeah the D3s is spectacularly boring. new jello video? same 12 MP? relatively pedestrian 9 FPS? crazy ISO — I’ll wait to see how useful that appears. unless you’re an embed in afghanistan I don’t know that a blotchy 102,400 shot gains you much — but who knows.

looks like the Canon camp got all in a tizzy for no reason. any of the projected spec lists for the upcoming 1DMkIV would easily make it the preferred shooter for sports/PJ photography.

  2. won’t go down by enough to make it more appealing than the 1DMkIV. prices on a brand new Nikon are unlikely to drop that much because they still need to cover their costs and simply because the camera is still a high quality camera.

note that old Canon 1DMkII’s still trade higher than new 50D’s, despite the relatively wimpy sensor and weaker gimme-gimme’s like a high res LCD.

Nikon just doesn’t have the bankroll to do the same level of development that Canon does for each and every iteration; they do a good job when they come up with new product, but they just can’t deliver new product as often.

  3. Smaller then a 5D? *Urg*
I like to hold a massiv camera in my hand!
All what I need is a FF, minimum 5 pic per second and a usable low an high iso. That’s all!

  4. Oh come on you guys,

the M.-Fn button is clearely visible on the left side of the camera near the dial. It even has its own shadow ..

    1d mark4 … yay

  5. Only in case when Canon provides a competitor. This far there are competitors in the fast pro FF niche for Nikon.
