Yeah, but that’s just the rumor mill at work, as in: CanonRumors posts some rumored specs, then another site copies the rumor, then CanonRumors says “look, another guy said the same thing as we did, it must be true!” ;)

Gizmode article talked about cannibalizing sales of 40D/50D. The truth is that the sales of the latter cameras are rather poor in the first place (as compared to the Nikon D300), so who cares? ;)

where are you getting your numbers – I still sell more 40/50’s than d300’s…

That sounds great but it is quite a lot of features for the rebel series at it’s price point. That will also hit 50D sales. We will have to wait and see but I am not convinced.

To funny. That day will come and go , and all that will have been announced is anything other than a DSLR. A printer I guess.

Looking forward to the Nikon D400 and sooner than that Panasonic’s GH1.

Im sure canon will do something, just not in stores this year!

Nikon european sites are down for update today.

come on… a danish site got this all started (danemark!!!)… why should canon write to a danish website to announce a meeting somewhere in northern europe to announce a new dslr? that seems a rather odd thing to do for a japanese company operating on worldwide scale!

and the gizmondo specs are way to high. this is practically a 50D with articulating screen and 1080p movies…

if they implement a movie mode my money is on 720p (same as nikon D90). an i would be very suprised if they even go as high as iso 6400, i think a possible 500D would only go as high as ISO 3200…

  8. Hank Says:

No it will be 1080P. Canon for the most part moves forward with product lines. At times surpassing more expensive products with newer generation gear. 720P is a starter res for PS cameras now. GH1 does 1080P. The new Canon SX1 does 1080p for 500 bucks. I don’t think anything is coming from Canon for some time, but when it does, it will for sure be 1080P and more refined than there first attempt in Movie modes on DSLR’s..

Yeah, theres no picture of the back of the camera as far as i can see? oh i wonder why?

  11. PS Says:

Ran 2 photos through CS4. The 500d logo on the front of the camera is a higher resolution at the pixel level. Also, the ‘D’ is raised up. Definitely looks like a layer overtop of an xsi.

bugger my Q; went and searched for 450D pics and lo and behold, same lighting / light sources, so I guess its a fakey…

Still, one hopes for 25th March…my 40D is a lemon…will not get sharp wide open on any lens…been in the service centre for the fifth time running.

if it has a quick jog wheel, and micro af adjust (long shots), i’m buying it to replace my 5D2 on vacations. they probably have equally sophisticated AF systems =/

Are you having problems with the AF? I went through a fashion week (variable lighting conditions and using AI servo) shot about 7k pictures with it and had no problems at all.

    @billbottoms -

Same here. If they are really pushing the ISO that high and can improve over the 50D/40D IQ I will definitely pick one up for beating around with at concerts/streets.

I’m also thinking about sending my 5DmkII in for warranty repairs. Did a shoot the other day and showed some banding issues. Supposedly they will just swap out the sensor with some newer “fixed” ones. Anyone else done this?

it’s gonna be a new G11, CMOS 12-15mp 28(or wider)-105mm equiv f2.8 lens with 1080p movie mode, and maybe a 500d with the same specs allthough I would have thought they’d sort out the 50d firmware to shoot video at the same time if releasing a 500d.

As said in earlier posts, it would be extremely pointsless with those specs. Way too close to the 50D. It seems a tad too much for a Rebel anyway. They don’t need to raise the MP to 15. I just can’t see the ISO on a Rebel going up to 12800. 6400 maybe. 3200 I can see. I’m sure they’ll put in movie mode as it’s being something the consumers are wanting.

Anonymous, what is the point of that link to a Japanese website? I don’t see any canon-related info on it.

Too good to be (totally) true. So far I’ve heard about 15mp, 3” screen that rotates, 18000 ISO (!), HD video with sound and AF, jog etc. All these in a entry level body?? It sounds more like a 55D or 60D rather a 500d. That would be a decent competition against Nikon D90.
To be honest I, too, hope it would be a “cheap” 500d (but then a 50d is dead). Hm Let’s wait till tomorrow

All I really really want is the articulating LCD. Ever since I bought the original Canon G1 back in 2001, I’ve wished for an articulating screen on a Canon SLR. It’s incredibly useful, and it changes the way I look compose my images.
I’ve been planning to buy a new 5DII, but I’m holding off to see whether the new Rebel includes the articulating screen. That’s how important I think it is; I’d be willing to forgo a full-frame chip just to get a swivel screen.
