EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye

All Done
I received the following email a couple of minutes ago.
I talked with Canon tech support today and they said they are no longer going to produce the Canon 15mm fisheye!!
I’m not sure what anyone in tech support would know about product availability. I haven’t seen an official discontinuation yet.

well that’s not good. I’ve been holding out to buy a new release of this lens since it is going out of stock everywhere. I really hope this rumor is wrong.

I still believe there is a place or this one in Canon’s line-up.

I sold mine when I only had my 40D.(not much of a fisheye on a crop camera) I wish I had it back to use on my 5D2.

Well, it’s been over 20 years – I’ll be there’s a new design on the way. Perhaps not 15mm, but something new.

I’d think if this were true there would be a replacement for it coming. And I agree tech support people are harldly in the loop for product development.

I would also think replacement, especially considering they’ll be making more FF cameras

Tech support sometimes say so many different things (also depending on who takes your inquiry/call)…. that make me wonder if they really know in depth what they are talking about…

I doubt that Canon would not have a fisheye lens in their lineup. Not when the sigma
does well and Nikon has one in their line… Not to mention, they recently updated the
14mm Aspherical. So I’ll just sit on my hands wait patiently. Curse the uncertainty of the situation and maybe i’ll be thankful they ran out just before I was about to buy the older
model…

C’mon these fisheye lenses are only good for cropped sensors. If you have seen one picture made with fisheye lenses you have seen them all.
Canon please discontinue this lens and use the R&D on something worthwhile.

its a niche product and a weird one at that… there are plenty of alternatives and if canon discountinues this one to make room for something more useful then I’m certainly going to be happy

hmmm… I don’t think you guys have seen the better fisheye pictures that are out there, I agree that it is a niche market, but it is a useful lens. I hope they keep or upgrade it, especially considering how little R&D it takes to improve a fisheye lens.

It’s not a niche market- every surf, snow and skate photog in the world relies on their fisheye on a practically daily basis… For taking watershots of surfers in tubes its the standard lens…

Very true Sharpy, a fisheye lens is the “money maker” every pro has to have it, nothing comes close.

What is up with this lens? This seems a long time for it to be out of stock. It may be an old lens, but it is well regarded, and this is not a good time for Canon to be replacing it unless the replacement is not that much more expensive.
