EOS-1D in 2009
From a pretty reliable source, I'm told to expect a new 1D announcement in the August/September timeframe. The camera will ship in limited quantities by October 2009.
I wasn't given any info on specs, just that it's coming.
New lenses?
Yes, expect a couple of updates to big white ones.
Do not expect any consumer grade lenses this time around.

Should I wait or buy 5D mark II and upgrade later?
That sounds a little late if the Cameras are to be in photographers hands and well tested for the Olympics. Time is needed to use the cameras first, and to get any bugs fixed. I wouldn’t want to be bringing a brand new camera to a event that my job depended on.
I totally agree. After the 1D3 experience, everyone would want to be comfortable before committing.
That’s 4-5 months. That’s an eternity in technology. The only thing I see as an issue is to make sure they can meet demand.
