Don't shoot the messenger, the rumor world is painfully slow at the moment.

  1. “A side note, Don’t shop at B&H. Their prices went up the exact amount of the Canon rebates the day they came out. … Go to Adorama or Amazon for a seller that stands behind their service.”

I’m calling BS on this. Canon raised their lens prices, which meant that B&H, Adorama, and Amazon all had to raise their prices at some point.

I checked today; B&H and Adorama both have the *exact* same prices for all of the instant rebate lenses (they even have the same lenses in stock, both are only out of stock on the 50mm f/1.2 USM).

And lately Amazon has been the *worst*, they have been out of stock on most of the lenses with rebates and many others as well. They don’t even bother to list themselves as sellers right now for some fairly common lenses (100mm macro and neither of the 70-200mm f/4 lenses), and on other lenses where the the primary “Buy now” links are for their “advertising affiliates”, those prices are *significantly* higher than B&H and Adorama. If you didn’t know what the going rate was, it wouldn’t be hard to overpay for glass at Amazon. (Just for sh!ts and grins, look up the Amazon affiliates’ ticket-scalper pricing on the 5DMkII from DBROTH and Pavilion: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-EOS-5D-Mark-II/dp/B001G5ZTLS)

I use Amazon for lots of stuff, but I’d have to think twice about buying glass from them between them being perpetually “out of stock”, their week-long delay “black hole” for their free super-saver shipping, and the rip-off pricing of their “trusted” affiliates.

  2. You’re right, Amazon and Adorama have raised their prices as well. I’ve actually found that the local photo stores (Washington DC) have been selling the Canon Lenses for the regular price minus the discount. This works out to be roughly the same since you have to pay sales tax, but at least I don’t have to wait for shipping. Also, I bought a 24-70 2.8L from NewEgg for $200 less than Adorama, BH, or Amazon had it on sale for. Their price is still cheaper as of today, not $200 cheaper, but still. I know Canon raised their prices, but it just seems dirty to wait until the rebates come out and then all these online retailers raise their prices the exact same amount. I purchased my 17-40 4L last November for $600 from Amazon and I got my 580EXII from Adorama in January for $340. Oh well, I guess everyone has to make as much as they can in this economy.

  3. “The model number (NIUHC60D – emphasis on first 2 letters)…”

The first two letters are from the product’s brand, Nimar in this case. I’ve asked the web guys to check what camera this is designed for.

  4. @ TheJBJ “A side note, Don’t shop at B&H. Their prices went up the exact amount of the Canon rebates the day they came out.”

This is completely incorrect and has been discussed TO DEATH in several forums including dpreview, fredmiranda and POTN. Several legit retailers were obliged by market conditions to raise prices on several Canon lenses some of which are included in the current rebate promo and some of which are not. Recently several additional retailers have also raised prices on the same group of lenses.

The suggestion B&H did something ethically questionable is ludicrous and contemptible.

  5. i actually just got an email from B&H because i asked about this to see if it was for a typo or not, here is what they said about it:

“Hello , my name is Dan W:

Thank you for contacting the B&H E-Mail Sales Department.

It is a housing for the old old old D60, Canon’s 2nd DSLR camera. It is not for the replacement of the 50D (which will probably be called 60D but we do not have any beans to spill about it). Nor do we have a cat to let out of the bag.

In most cases when Canon announces a new camera, it is leaked on DP Review before stores are told anything.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Thank you, we appreciate your business.
