By Glenn Bartley Canadian professional wildlife photographer Glenn Bartley took our Canon EF 600 f/4L IS II for a week long test drive in Arizona before purchasing his own. I’ve been a fan of Glenn’s for some time, especially his work in South America. As expected, the lens is a terrific birding lens. As Glenn said from the start, it’s a 600mm lens in a 500mm f/4L IS version 1 body, which is the lens his moving on from. Says Glenn…. “What a treat to be able to use this lens for an extended period of time for real world testing. There…

A new 35L We haven’t heard anything in regards to a replacement for the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L lens in a long time, however this weekend it was mentioned that the EF 35 f/1.4L II is in fact in testing. There is no imminent announcement date,  and it may be held until a new full frame camera is ready to go in 2014. We’ve talked about this lens a lot in the past and it has been rumoured to be replaced since the EF 24 f/1.4L II was announced. We also know that patents do exist for the optical formula. Sigma’s 35mm f/1.4…

From The Digital Picture Bryan has completed his full review of the Canon EF 200-400 f/4L IS 1.4x (we’re still working on ours). As expected, the review is a glowing one as this lens performs unbelievably well for a zoom. Says Bryan: “If the f/4 max aperture is not an issue for you, the Canon EF 200-400mm f/4 L IS USM Ext 1.4x Lens, by virtue of its focal length range, can replace several other lenses in your kit. It will deliver stunning image quality and should stand up to professional use. I’m still integrating this lens into my kit,…

It looks to do what it should The new firmware for the Canon EOS M will be coming soon, and there’s now a video out there comparing the performance differences between 1.0.6 and 2.0.2 (which may not be the final version). I like the EOS M a lot, especially with the EF-M 22mm f/2 STM, however the AF performance of the camera has really given it a bad name. While I don’t think it’s any worse than a G15 in real world use, that’s definitely not good enough for a DSLR replacement/companion camera. Below are a couple of videos showing off the…

Announcements in the fall We’re told that two new wide angle zooms for full frame will be coming from Canon in the next 6-8 months. At least one of them could be announced in Q4 of 2013. One of the lenses will be the 14-24 f/2.8L, that will complete Canon’s run of lenses covering 14mm to 560mm. The other will be a replacement to both the 16-35 f/2.8L II and the 17-40 f/4L. We’re told one of the configurations in test is an EF 16-50 f/4L IS. This comes from a source that has been correct in the past, although…

An image worth investigating Below are some screencaps that I received today from a Chinese forum called “Weibo”. In it, you will see a blurred out Canon camera, which isn’t all that significant. However, on the strap we see what appears to be “EOS 3D”, I do not see a fold in the strap that would possibly be hiding a “0” for the 30D, nor is it a 7. What do you think? Also appeared on [PR] cr
