*UPDATE* What's the firmware do?
I received some info about firmware 1.2.0. It is a legitimate version.

Fixes
– Fixes issues related to poor quality third party batteries.
– Added code for upcoming remotes, accessories and lenses.

The source is a good one.

5D Mark II Issue (Direct Quote)

Also, 5DII twitch (confirmed as a metering spike) is known – keeps things looking even for the sensor which fluctuates charge/discharge based upon several criteria.  It's working properly when it does this, sensing changes that are electronic and compensating for image continuity.  It allows for smooth transitions, both while focusing and for proper exposure.  The sudden opening and closing “bridges” the gap during a discharge.  It is inherently random.

thanks

From POTN
A post on POTN shows a 7D with what appears to be firmware version 1.2.0. The current official version from Canon is version 1.1.0.

New Firmware Coming?

See the thread for more: http://photography-on-the.net/

No word yet on what fixes or features were addressed. It's after April 1, so I think we can assume it's not a PS job.

Thanks Troy

  1. About lenses, i don’t know if firmware update is the way to add new corrections onboard, but last CR2 news (if i remember well) were about a special application EF-S lens (8 fisheye? 60 IS? a TS?) and the EF 50 1.4 II.
A good update for the 7D would be to bypass the slow down to 4 fps in low EV.
This thing doesn’t seem to occur on the 1DIV that uses iFCL too (surely different ok), but it could be bypassed.
There’s also a problem with exposure inconsistency, depending on the situation, using the internal flash.
But if could be only a minor step, involving remotes, lenses and batteries as reported.
A bit OT, my favourite update would be a “stupid” average metering(evaluative give weight to the selected AF point, and center weighted to the center, as it said), still missing on all bodies, but really needed when shooting with flashes. (At least by me)
    As always, we’ll see :-)

  2. It’s true that Nikon designed the sensor, but it’s not correct to say that “Nikon makes their own sensors now”. In fact, the same link you provide states “Nikon isn’t revealing their manufacturing partner”, which very likely is Sony. But, in my opinion, this is not a negative characteristic of Nikon cameras, as many people seem to believe. I shoot Canon, but I must say Nikon cameras are outstanding pieces of technology. Same as Canon.

Whether or not you think this is a real bug/issue or not, PLEASE STOP POSTING ABOUT IT HERE. This is the comment thread for the **7D** firmware, which isn’t even out yet for people to be complaining about bugs in it.

If you want to comment on the 5D2 v2.0.4 firmware, go back to the CR home page and click on the APPROPRIATE thread!

  4. The topic refers to 7D, but the content also includes a supposed technical explanation about the 5D Mark II issue.

That’s why we posted new information on this thread, otherwise we wouldn’t have.

We did more tests, and posted a REPORT UPDATE with more VIDEOS and DETAILS to show the quoted explanation is wrong.

** The IRIS jitter also occurs in complete darkness **

  5. “Tests and facts can’t be denied”…

Except if they come from non credible people. you are amateurs. Why should we beleive you ?
