We have discovered that, in rare instances, the main mirror of some EOS 5D Digital SLR cameras may detach due to deterioration in the strength of the adhesive. Accordingly, we would like to convey the details and our service policy concerning this phenomenon.

Phenomenon
The main mirror of the camera detaches and images cannot be viewed through the viewfinder.

Affected Product
EOS 5D Digital SLR cameras whose main mirror has detached.

User Support
We will repair and reinforce the mirror portion of the affected products free of charge. If you own one of the affected products, please contact our Customer Support Center.

  1. All this could have something to do with Nikon not only snapping at the heels but actually getting ahead as No1 producer of DSLR’s. I don’t think this will do anything to slow their demise!

  2. I give Canon no ‘props’ in this regard at all. They made a bad product, charged a lot for it, and are only now publicly admitting to the problem. From the money they make from their equipment, you might think they would have the resources to test their glue before using it in a mirror mechanism. I am wondering if my MkII will be any better :-(

  3. I did read that article. But did not follow the comments. Thanks for clarifying. :)

    Hopefully 5D2 will not have similar issues. Well, we would know in a few months time, especially those that are in tropical climates.
