You can't make a modern mirrorless with EF flange. Not because of the lenses, but it would have looked like the Pentax K-01 Frankenstein...

The RF mount flange distance is 20mm, not 22mm.

That too but how do you think the old EF would have worked with 22mm flange? No way they could have kept the EF mount.
