The 7-series is Canon’s red-headed stepchild. Longest update cycle, moved downmarket with the DSLR to MILC transition. I take any rumors with a large grain of salt, especially those suggesting high-end features.

Nikon has been reluctant to make a high level crop sensor camera. Canon did make a quality crop sensor camera with the R7 and they are improving on it immensely with the R7ii slated for this year 2026.

Supposedly Nikon is bringing the Z90 ( unicorn ) to market in 2026 as well though have my doubts on the validity even if the information comes from a reputable YouTube source.

I had plenty of shots of the Reed Bunting on tree branches but I waited to get one actually on reeds (here, bulrushes) to get the right habitat for its name. (And singing as it's mating season).

I’d be happier if there had have been leaks and rumours about the R7ii during the olympics. I’m hoping the body was olympics worthy and it just flew under the radar. I really want an APSC that pairs well with my R5. However, I guess when you have access to all the big whites Canon had there to loan out, an APSC looses much of its appeal…

Beautiful bird portraits. I especially like the first one with the very smooth background and the colourful bird and eye and the orange in contrast to the grey.

It seems that Nikon only just got their Z mount patents approved in China, so now they are going after the Chinese makers. Viltrox was first. Now Sirui has pulled all Z mount lenses from Chinese stores. This will probably ramp up over the coming weeks & months as more makers get hit. Including the E-Z adapter companies.

I think the fact that Sigma is getting so good while being so reasonably priced (comparatively at least) is why neither Canon nor Nikon will ever allow them unrestricted access to their mirrorless mounts. Canon hasn't even let Tamron into FF yet, something Nikon did quite a while ago.

Why?

I am very interested by this camera. I have been looking at the Fujifilm X-E5 which I love. But I am in the Canon ecosystem, my main camera is an R5 and I also use an R7. So this would be the small cary in my kit. I need it to be photo-centric with proper zoom range for that (24-120mm type of range), an EVF, a tilt screen, and ideally the old R7 (mark I) sensor or something of that quality. Weather sealing would be very welcome as well. I hope it will not be another creator camera.

I hope an update on the 740hs with bigger sensor and with raw and all weather sealing.
Or a new G5 with zoom of a 740hs and bigger sensor and raw, that would be the absolute best compact camera to have.

All we can do is wait and see what canon comes up with

I went to Fuji after shooting Canon full frame EF & RF+ EOS 35mm for over 20 years. I had an X-T5 and I do have a great many fantastic shots created with it (see attached) but it was never easy. It could have used a lock switch feature like my R6ii. I dialed in the custom dials and buttons yet I would still bump, hit and spin settings without knowing until too late, time and time again. I increasingly missed Canon's menu system let alone it's AF. My experience was rarely smooth and when I came back to Canon, it was a gigantic sigh of relief. Two very different cameras the R7ii and the X-T6. Apples and oranges iyam. Plus, not many Canon owners are walking around hoping their camera strikes up conversations, the R7 shooter is too busy shooting. Fuji is great for a coveted, imaging fetish item but the Canon will be the tool.
