It’s Canon EOS R6 Mark III Week With a Fresh Teaser

I'm wondering how the release of the R6 MKIII might affect R5/R5 MKII sales - the difference between the 24MP of the R6 MKII and R5 was quite significant but the 34MP of the MKIII is bringing it much closer to the R5/R5MKII's 45MP sensor ??
Yes, why not get a new R5 for the same price?

Canon's Tilt-Shift Evolution: What's Next?

Current EF TS lenses are all excellent and there's really no reason not to get them if you need them for architecture or landscape work. I don't think the RF TS lenses are coming any time soon and it's also reasonable to expect they'll first announce one, or at best two lenses. So it might be a long while before there's a whole RF TS set (17-24-50-90-135).

My guess is that a RF 24 TS will be the first (or whatever is closest in terms of angle), followed by RF 90 TS to satisfy the product photographers.

The possibility of AF versions to me seems essentially unnecessary, especially if it causes huge price increase. What I would very much like to see (and find waaay more useful) is an included lens collar with all of these lenses. Fuji GF 30 TS is a great example. Also, I would love to see better shift controls. The knobs are fiddly and difficult to use. I think Laowa has this nailed down to perfection with their ring controls.

Speaking of which, Laowas zero-D shifts are very good and you save a bunch of money if you don't need the tilt functionality. I personally use tilt extremely rarely and 99,9% of time it's shift only.

Canon EOS R6 Mark III & RF 45 F1.2 STM November 6

Two questions about panamoz:
1.) If my camera needs a repair (maybe after years): would I be able to send to Canon CPS? Or would I have to take elsewhere?
2.) If I have to send in my camera to panamoz, does it have to leave the country?

thx
What I know is:
- After the 3 years of Panamoz warranty, you can send the camera anywhere, including to CPS.
- Panamoz have local repair stations (often the same ones used by guess whom...) in most European countries. (France, Germany, Italy are a certainty).
I wouldn't worry at all, they are a very reliable company, even according to the internet "experts".
PS: Until now, I've saved at least Euro 3500 buying from them. (RF 100-500, R5 II, RF 15-35 f/2,8) No issues at all!

It’s Canon EOS R6 Mark III Week With a Fresh Teaser

There are two things I am excited about: low light capability and the bump in auto focus. I'm strictly a hobbyist and I'm currently shooting a 6Dm2. Perhaps the r6m2 would be a big enough jump in both of those areas. Particularly the low light.

Thing is, I mostly shoot my kids sports and they play soccer/futsal and basketball. I'm really excited to try the action priority settings (in concert with the low light boost for futsal and basketball).

Only did a cursory search, but I haven't been able to find a ton of real world reviews about those soccer/basketball action modes. The reviews I did see say they're pretty good, but not earth shattering.

In any case, super excited to check it out.

It’s Canon EOS R6 Mark III Week With a Fresh Teaser

I unterstand completely. In 2022, I went on a safari in Kenya. I was facing the same dilemma as you are right now. In the end, I decided to upgrade my 100-400mm lens with the RF 100-500mm and the 1.4 extender and I kept the EOS R. For most part I did fine and got great pics, but when I spotted a fast running leopard I only managed to get two sharp pics and basically 50 unusable ones. In 2022, prices for the R6 and R5 were still (also covid related) very high, so I opted the other route. The R7 didn't ship in time... my initial idea was to pair the R7 and the R. Oh well, still did good/ great pics.

For you, depending on your budget, I´d consider the following scenarios:
- get a R7 + 200-800mm and go with a two cameras. The R is great for landscapes and slowy moving animals like elephants and giraffes.
- get a used R6 + 200-800mm and take a two camera set-up as mentioned above. The R6 AF is not on par with mkii, but still lightyears better for wildlife than the R.
- sell the R, get the R6mkii
- sell the R, get the R6mkii, sell the Sigma and get your dream lens.

The price for the R6iii will be sky high for about 12-18 months. First cash backs/ discounts usually run at 250 $. Until it hits the price point of 2.200 $/€ it will be a while.

In Germany, the differences between a used EOS R and R6 on eBay are about ≈ 400 €, if you're lucky even just 300 €. Maybe you could sell the R, get the R6, be for happy for now and get the R6iii for Black Friday 2026/ 2027 and end up with a great two camera set-up. That´d be my way to go. If I ever go on a Safari again, I´d definitely bring a two camera setup.
Thank you for your insights. But I will keep the R for landscapes, astro and as a backup. And I know the frustration of trying to shoot moving animals with it. I'll upgrade the lens first and see what 2026 will bring to the table...

Canon EOS R6 Mark III & RF 45 F1.2 STM November 6

Sure, but from a very reliable company, Panamoz. The price was 2/3rds. of what I would have paid buying from French, German or Italian stores.
I can understand a real store with employees, situated in an expensive area, needs a higher margin. But, since I don't need a demo or any other service, I prefer to buy where I get the same items, legally, fully taxed (!!!) , at a much lower price, and a 3 years no fuss warranty.
On the other hand, if I need service or some explanations about a product, I buy where I get them. I think it's being dishonest to try on shoes in a store, only to order them online later on.

Canon EOS R6 Mark III & RF 45 F1.2 STM November 6

My bad.. I didn't look up the right body. R100 is much cheaper :)
now worries :ROFLMAO:
as per https://personal.canon.jp/product/camera/eos/ the EOS Kiss X90 (90D) is still available new
And https://personal.canon.jp/product/camera/ef#ef-s has the EF-S10-18mm F4.5-5.6 IS STM and EF-S24mm F2.8 STM still available plus stock on shelves with dealers.
so EF-S is not quite dead yet but definitely on palliative care.

* we are all speculating!
EF(-S) is not dead in that you can still buy new gear which is under support... but it is dead in the sense that Canon is not developing the system anymore. They may build small batches of EF(-S) gear as market requires, but large parts of the systems have been discontinued now and Canon wants you to buy RF(-S)... and I think this is more than speculation ;)

I am debating with myself whether to buy the R6ii which will be heavily discounted starting Nov. 7th - I'd be upgrading from the EOS R. I'd mainly do it for the AF system, but I'd lose crop ability. Since I do mainly wildlife and birds (in Southern Africa), I am also considering just sticking with the R and instead getting the RF 200-800 and upgrade to the R6iii on Black Friday 2026...

Canon Focus Motor Technology Through the Ages

Thanks, the article was very interesting. I would love a follow-up article that compare the technologies used today's by Canon to the ones used by Nikon, Sony, Sigma etc and the technologies that might arise in the future lenses.

"While Canon had advanced autofocus motors like USM, Nikon was still figuring out how to get a motor into a lens."

It would spiril downhill from there ;)

Yes, I could also do that. And it's driving me crazy, haha. Right now I have the R and the Sigma 150-600 - so upgrades are needed on both ends. The question is in which order. I do like the EOS R, it's just the weak AF that is additionally weakened by the lens and the adapter...
If I were you I would always first go for a better lens. It is these that give you the best results. the R is maybe not the best option nowadays but if you compare it with camera's of the era before the mirrorless it is definately good! R7mkII with RF 200-800 (or the 100-500 plus converter albeit more expensive) and you have a top notch combo! And don't worry about the "low light performance" .. you are in South Africa my friend ;)

Canon's Tilt-Shift Evolution: What's Next?

I'll sell my house and live in a cardboard box behind the convenience store if I have to!

More seriously, I don't buy camera equipment because I want to take photos to get rich, I take the photos because something inside me believes the images can be important.

The R6ii is wayyy better than the R. Depends how urgently you need it though. On the photo side, the R6iii does not look significantly better to me than the II with the exception of pixel count. The II is a very good camera. Maybe you could also wait for an R7ii and get a 100-500?

Canon's Tilt-Shift Evolution: What's Next?

Autofocus adds speed and convenience and the option to use manual focus is always there. I don't own a DSLR, so I need an adapter. I'd rather not use an adapter. It's a matter of preference. Plus, I can afford it.
