The problem with your wish list is that the telephoto end of small sensor super zooms is almost always diffraction limited, so no matter how fine the lens is, it will be soft. The only way around that is to keep the lens fast, i.e. f/2.8 or faster over the whole range and that makes a 40:1 zoom huge, even on a 1/2.3 sensor. The Panasonic ZS 300 is a 25:1, constant f/2.8 and is stays decently sharp over the full range, but then, again, it only has a 12MP sensor. If you go smaller pixels and longer zoom, the lens needs to be both faster and much bigger. Physics is a hard mistress. The Nikson P1000, which has an excellent lens is very soft at the long end at f/8 with a 16MP sensor. I have both the FZ300, and the P1000, so I understand the limitations of each. My R7 with a 200-800 that is f/9 at the long end provides much better detail thanks to the much bigger pixels not being as far into diffraction territory, but even there, diffraction is a big factor in the result. Bottom line, there is no point in wishing for something physics won't let you have. Here are the rumored specs,
Canon SX750 HS — Rumored Specifications
The Canon SX750 HS is expected to succeed the aging SX740 HS (Amazon | B&H Photo | Adorama), which launched back in 2018. Its predecessor offered a 20.3-megapixel sensor and a 40× optical zoom (24–960 mm equivalent). While impressive, technology has moved on, and users now expect better image processing, stabilization, and higher-quality 4K video.
Rumors indicate Canon will keep the same pocket-friendly form factor but completely redesign the internal hardware. Here’s what enthusiasts hope to see:
With its extended zoom and 4K capabilities, the SX750 HS could once again become a favorite travel companion for those who want reach and convenience without carrying a large camera.
Feature Rumored / Desired Sensor 1/2.3-inch or larger sensor with improved dynamic range Processor DIGIC X image processor Lens Extended zoom (45× or 50×), better optical quality Autofocus Faster hybrid AF or simplified Dual Pixel AF Stabilization Advanced optical IS for handheld telephoto shooting Video 4K 60 fps with crop reduction Display Articulated screen for vlogging and selfies Connectivity USB-C charging and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth Battery Improved life and heat management
Based on forum members' testing shared in a thread from DPReview, it seems that the focus shift issue has somehow been resolved (https://www.dpreview.com/forums/threads/rf100mm-f2-8-l-macro-focus-shift-is-fixed-addressed.4771391/).Not that I have noticed. The RF lens does exhibit mild focus shift, but only at magnifications over 1x and in any case, if your camera supports exposure + DoF simulation then focus shift is a non-issue because focusing is done with the lens already stopped down.
i keep wishing i had a compelling reason to buy a 200 F/2. the problem i see with constant aperture zooms is how big the front element is, and how such are large front element should deliver an even wider aperture for the wide angle end of the zoom range. if you buy a 70-200 F/2 and shoot a bunch at 100 you might have been better off with a 100 F/1.4.That's another reason for it to not happen and the lens to stop at 150-180.
Canon will want it's own f2.0 trinity, at this point it's even a question of reputation against Sony that is building it's own.
OK, cheap new FF is an oxymoron. There is a lot of great used FF gear. But the implication that the only way into photography is through a new FF camera just isnt true. If anything that's gatekeeping. Id wager the vast majority of folks who started photography with a digital camera did not start on full frame.Cheap FF is not an oxymoron. This is one of those gate-keeping opinions that discourages new people from starting photography. Have you actually used cheaper modern RF lenses? The real secret weapon of cheap mirrorless FF is a 30€ SLR mount adapter. It allows new photographers to use all the old lenses relatives has lying in drawers without a crop-factor.
Nice photo and I'm pretty sure it's first for the species in this forum!
It's a common phrase and was meant in good humour.
I have no means of using such software, I have no computer and 99% of my photos are on memory cards or archived on old backup hard drives. But I don't need stats to know; I don't use my camera to photograph people or places, wide and standard angle shots are exceeedingly rare* (I use my phone for that). By far the commonest zoom I would mount now is the 100-400 and I use it most at 400. More often, I just take the 800 and maybe an extender on a trip. I'm very unusual in my choices no doubt, which is why generalising from my experience is anathema.
Is there already some news on when canon comes with new compact camera's??

I also want a high end super zoom that can be wide angle, do well in low light, etc. The specs rumored below to me would be good, although it would be better if the zoom was more than 20XA new 750 would be great as I would assume it would have a 40X zoom! I would pay the money based on how well they can enable it to do wide angle, low light, yet still have a massive zoom.
Rumored Canon V3 Specifications:
The V3 is rumored to act as a modern, compact successor to cameras like the Canon G3X or SX740HS, designed to appeal to photographers needing portability and high-powered zoom.
- Sensor: 1.4-inch 22.4-megapixel CMOS sensor (likely the same as the V1/R7).
- Lens: 20x optical zoom (approx. 24-480mm or 24-500mm 35mm equivalent).
- Viewfinder: Built-in electronic viewfinder (EVF) expected for a better shooting experience.
- Design & Handling: Deeper hand grip and more robust body, prioritizing a compact stills camera over a dedicated vlogging tool.
- Performance: Likely to feature 8-stop image stabilization.
- Video: Potential for 4K capabilities, but likely without active cooling.
- Release Date: Targeted for the fourth quarter of 2025.

I agree! I am ready to immediately purchase a SX750 HS if it has anything close to the rumored specs!Still hoping for a good zoom range like 20 or 30x like the hs740 but with a bigger sensor, and most of all with raw and not only jpeg.
And maybe with an evf.
Still hoping for a compact camera that can replace my Sony hx60, i love this little camera its my daily camera.

There is definitely NOT enough super zooms! I have been hoping for a new SX750 HS as I want something that has the same or more zoom than the TX99 but with better quality low light and camera picture ability. I have no problem paying $1k to $2K depending on the specs. The SX740 is so old yet it is selling for way more than it sold new, clearly the demand is there for a powerful compact superzoom that can do things a phone cannot....Enough new super zooms? The only one i know that is the tz99 of last year of Panasonic...
Sony doesn't have super zooms anymore and all other super zooms are pretty old.
When it comes to video the amount of resolution required is vastly overstated...I don't rely on TDP's or D. Abbott's chart pictures, among other reasons because they are taken at a distance which doesn't necessarily match my photography habits.
I have also noticed in the past that lenses I found exceptional performed badly for chart photography.
Therefore, I will test mine, and keep it or send it back. Yet, I'm quite convinced I'll keep it!![]()
Or part of a strategy to widen customer basis.I'm guessing the 45mm was a test: "Will enough people buy a cheaper 1.2 from Canon?"
Canon R5 II with 100-500mm. A beautiful puffin quite a small bird and hard to catch in flight. The R5 II wasn’t perfect but it was good at tracking the Puffin as it came in from the sea. Far superior camera to the R5 in tracking ability. Image quality between both is similar.

Haubentaucher by Helmut Gloor, auf FlickrGood to know, thx. I'll probably get a used copy of EF version then. I just looked and the difference is about 500 €. Enough money to get the adapter and some left over for maybe another lens. Since the RF 14mm F1.4 and 20mm F1.4 are out of my price league for my rare use cases, I thinking about getting the sigma 20mm f1.4 for the summer once again. I´d like to take some nightscapes at the North Sea.Not that I have noticed.
