R5II - Sending Images to a Smartphone from the Camera [GPS data missing]

When you’re in the view with the photo grid, tap the gear icon on the top right, you’ll get this menu:
View attachment 225506
Click on the bottom entry and you’ll get a pop-up that has the “don’t delete” and “delete” optionM
Many thanks. I don't use the function a lot but sometime back I noticed that my iPhone was no longer receiving the location information. Tried figuring out why and failed. I may have even asked the question here (I don't actively participate much, more of a lurker) but couldn't find the answer. And this was so simple. Now if my 80+ year old brain will remember it is the question.

Is China now the Preferred Export Destination for Cameras?

"In the second half of the year, we expect [camera] demand to soften in the United States due to price increases associated with additional tariffs. However, by expanding sales, particularly in Asia where the market is strong, we still plan to increase full-year sales by 6% to 3 million units."

R1. I got one!

Thanks MMMM, I finally got my R1 from Panamoz in May. Great to deal with. I will be buying all my camera gear there in future.
Changing from a 1DXmk 3 to an R1 took some learning. I was lucky that a friend of mine had just got an R5 mk 2 so we did a lot of work over summer from shared hides and learned off each others mistakes. Theres a lot to learn and Im still tweeking occasionally.
I am blown away with pre-capture and the eye tracking AF.

Canon, it's time for a Mark II of the RF 35 1.8 IS

They’re not “first gen”, they’re gear type STM. Canon has both gear type and lead-screw STM, and they still use both motors.

The RF 85mm f/2 and the RF 24mm f/1.8, for instance, use lead-screw STM, as well as few higher end lenses.
Canon Europe have an article about the lens focusing motor technology.

Laowa launches two tilt-shift 1:1 macro lenses for the RF Mount

No, You don't get more DOF with a tilted lens. I just posted some shots with the Laowa 55mm TS here:
and here:

The closer You get to Your subject the smaller the angle of the focus plane can be.
Try to understand the Scheimflug rule. ;)
They look nice! Have you taken any photos with it at landscape distances?

Canon 2nd Quarter of 2025 Financials

Trump was clever to exclude mobile phones from the tariffs as the additional tax would have been very obvious and impact everyone.
On that, I notice that the latest rumours for the iPhone 17 Pro involve there being some serious video upgrades - intended to target vloggers:

If so, then at least for the higher $ value, there will be a price advantage for those not needing all the features in traditional cameras.

Canon R5M2

There have been comments elsewhere that some folks are not using OEM batteries. I was under the impression that NON-OEM batteries wouldn't work w/ the R5M2. Is that now incorrect?

As to the issue of firmware #1.0.3, my camera would do weird things like, failing to focus, or locking up and not being able to change setting. Power cycling the camera took care of the problem, but who wants to do that? Also the metering seemed to be effected from time to time...the camera became untrustworthy. I sent my camera to Norfolk and had the firmware "wound back" to. 1.0.2, but I haven't shot since then (got it back a few days ago).

New Canon EOS & Cinema EOS Cameras Appear for Certification

I was immediately fascinated when the product code DS126916 was certified, the photography community was abuzz that this was the EOS R9 - a flagship or semi-professional mirrorless camera in the EOS R series.
