Agreed. Personally, I’d like the rear dial to control ISO in Av mode. As it is, it doesn’t matter whether you said it to standard or off it does nothing.

As far as I know, there is no way to set a specific focal length, nor is there any way to view it on the camera. You have to check the EXIF later.

Would love to hear you report after your trip. I have seen some decent reviews and the still image quality has definitely improved a bit across all three focal lengths though not dramatically. Some of the other features are attractive as well like 40+ real world minutes of flight time and 55 mph speed to get to distant subjects.

Musing about apertures faster than 1.0 is fun but did you notice what this patent is likely really about? What goes on between HM1 and HM2 called a QWP?? Never heard of it and never seen such a design. It bounces the light a couple of times shortening the physical length of the optical path. I'm sure this could be used in other designs as well
Upd: my Japanese is not what it used to be but it is indeed about a Quarter Wavelength Plate and reflections.

Could this Canon RF 11-22mm F2.8 IS be the Astro photographers dream lens? If I recall - there was some recent 2025ish article on that without mentioning any particular lens there.

I have the EF-S60Macro and the 100mm IS Macro also..

I realize this an older thread but thought I would add this informtion.
I recently used a ProMaster 5154 model EF-RF adapter to make this modification. It has a wide opening and minimal filing was needed to allow the RF Extenders to fit. The pins also have springs behind them, they feel just like the Canon adapter in that regard. I use it with a RF 1.4x and 300/2.8. I Just receive a RF 2x to test out.

I think a full-frame 20-60 F/4 if priced right would end up in my kit eventually as a smaller walkaround zoom on vacation and for video uses - a 20-50 F/4, which gives a little bit of ultra-wide and stays a little longer, would also be nice.

24-50 could be a candidate, but I do think 16-35 would just be a little bit too short on the long end for me to use as a general video lens. 16-35 would be great for small gimbal stuff, which I'd guess would be good for vlogging but I'd like to see something that could give more of a medium shot with a mild amount of zoom.

I've found the Meike RF 55mm f/1.4 and the Meike RF 85mm f/1.8 PRO available for purchase in my country:

I was hoping Canon would attach the metering to the focus point. Other camera manufacturers, like Sony, do this for spot. I believe Nikon does this for evaluative and spot metering. Canon should up its game and do this for evaluative, partial, spot, and center weighted. It should be standard for all mirrorless models.

Got the same problem. I downgrade my firmware to 1.0.2 (works fine for me with the second method out of the video on petapixel: https://petapixel.com/how-to-downgrade-canon-camera-firmware/). Problem is gone now . Now I'm waiting for version 1.0.4

Separation is just nice.. Love this lens. Crop a bit. F2.8 using R8.

R8 + this lens combo, is too light that one time I got alarmed that my sling bag might be empty and left the camera.

If the extension tubes are older you may want to gently swab the contacts with a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol.

On the other hand, diopters are much more effective than extension tubes when used on longer focal lengths. Tubes work better on wide angle lenses, so +1 for diopter instead of extension tubes in your particular use case. On top of that, diopters are quicker to mount and remove.
I use the Raynox DCR250 on my RF100-400 and EF100L, where it produces 3x life-size images on the former and 2x on the latter, so with the RF100L you should be getting something between those two. The Raynox is also very well controlled in terms of CA.

Two somewhat different use cases.

1. For sports, the R3 will give you Olympics level capabilities as we saw in previous posts. It will be up to you to learn how to make the best of it. The limitation will be you for a while. The R5 and R6 may sufficient, depending the on the situation.
2. For family or other less demanding events, the R5 and R6 should handle them. You shouldn't find too many limitations in this case. The R3 might be overkill.

I find a R6m2 handles both pretty well for my current situation, coming from a 6Dm2/1DXm2 combo. I recently used an R6m2 w/ RF28-70 f2.8 and R8 w/ RF 85 f2 to shoot my granddaughter's middle school play. They were setup identically and were pretty much interchangeable for this purpose. I also shoot department events with this combo that get published in the university electronic and print media. My images consistently get some of the highest numbers of likes on social media. I used the R6m2 with EF 135 f2 or EF 70-200 f2.8 m2 to shoot her volleyball matches for the past few years with pretty good results, replacing my 1DXm2 for my current sports, bird, and wildlife shooting. I haven't tried an R5 yet.
