Lens aberration correction files

I recently downloaded from the Canon website the current version of the lens aberration correction files into my EOS utility program.

Question- not all my lenses seem to have correction files. Is this because these lenses do not need correction?

These are the lenses which do not have correction files
Most of these are NOT new lenses---

EF-s 24mm f2.8 STM
EF-s 10-18 f4.5-5.6 IS STM
EF 50mm f1.8 STM
EF 16-35 f4L IS USM

Am I missing something? Why can't I find correction files for these lenses?

How can I find out if correction files for these lenses will be available someday?

Thanks!!

I'm waiting for the day when the whole kit (mk4 + 24-105ii) = $3500.

Well..that's probably 3-4 years later.

And then the 5D mk5 will be almost on he shelf.

Or you could buy the 5D mk3 kit right now perhaps. ;D
+1

Well the whole situation in CR looks like:

X = 2 ; // well there is never Mark1 designation

while (true){
//I'm waiting for the day when the new CameraMarkX will be much cheaper;
//Well..that's probably 3-4 years later; So...
wait(4 years) ;
//In that case the new camera will be almost on the shelf; So...
X++;

5D Mark IV: Dual Pixel Raw allows focus in post. Wow!

retroreflection said:
When a point in an image is in focus, the various rays arriving at that point in the image (having taken various paths through space and the lens) are in phase. By splitting an autofocus sensor in two and measuring the phase relationship, the degree of focus at that point can be measured. In addition, phase detect sensors can sense the direction and magnitude from an out of focus state to the correct focus state.

[...]

Now the speculation.
If every pixel is a dual pixel, and thus a phase detect pixel, and if the per pixel phase relationship is recorded with each image, what can be done with this innovative data?

We don't have coherent light here, so I don't think it is correct to talk about "phase" for single light rays and image points. You can of course assign some phase shift value to a single pixel, but only after evaluating all the pixels around it and not with just the values from that pixel.

The phase is relating to the (light+dark) structures in the image. Let's assume we are taking an image of a flat, light pattern on a dark background. When the image is in focus, we get a perfectly sharp image and the partial images from the different parts of the lens have no shift and match perfectly. If the images are out of focus, the pattern in the partial images coming through the different parts of the lens are shifted and this amount of shift can be called "phase shift". Because of the finite lens area going into each partial pixel (actually half the lens each) the shifted partial images will still be blured (although only half as strong as the complete image).
If we have a regular pattern, it will not even be possible to properly determine the phase shift, if the shift is exactly a multiple of the grid spacing in the pattern.

Due to all of this, the final resolution of the "in-focusness" or the distance information generated from the dpRAW will likely be much less than the actual image resolution.

Review: Canon imagePROGRAF Pro-4000

Canon Rumors said:
<p>Martin Bailey has completed what is likely the first review of the brand new Canon imagePROGRAF Pro-4000, a new 44″ printer from Canon. We’ve seen reviews of both the <a href="http://www.canonrumors.com/review-canon-imageprograf-pro-1000/">imagePROGRAF Pro-1000</a> and <a href="http://www.canonrumors.com/review-canon-imageprograf-pro-2000/">imagePROGRAF Pro-2000</a> from Keith at Northlight Images which have shown these to be the best printers Canon has ever made and it looks like the Pro-4000 will fall into the same category.</p>
<p>Martin writes about one of the great features of the Pro-4000</p>
<blockquote><p>Another great improvement in my opinion is the ability to now choose from three sizes of ink tanks, with 160ml, 330ml, and 700ml tanks available. My old iPF6350 took 130ml ink tanks, so even the smallest of the new tanks holds 30ml more ink. I could fill up the new PRO-4000 with 160ml tanks, but now having the option to install larger tanks, and mix and match the sizes, means we can select the tank size based on how quickly the inks run down. <a href="https://www.martinbaileyphotography.com/2016/08/15/canon-imageprograf-pro-4000-printer-review-podcast-536/">Read the full review</a></p></blockquote>
<p>I’ll still be going with a Pro-2000, as I don’t need a crane to get into my house.</p>

A very in-depth review, like the 3 sizes ink tanks improvement. That is indeed very handy.

Custom Buttons for Video with 1DX

surfer57 said:
I typically am a stills guy but recently have been asked to help out on a video project because I have experience shooting in water and a good housing. My housing is for the 1DX and is set up for stills primarily.

That said I have access to a few buttons still. Shutter, both wheels, play button, *, and Q.

Is it possible to switch the record function from the m.Fn button to any of these? It'd be the easiest solution at this point to be able to take on this job.

You can already use shutter button to start/stop recording.

Lensrentals.com Compares Lenses at 400mm

j-nord said:
Great review! It's like a 1 stop shop for 400 comparison. Used to have to really dig around to get a good picture of how all these lenses compared to one another. It's unfortunate that the Sigma 150-600 Sport couldn't be included because it always interested me more than the cheap sig/tam super zooms.

I can definitely see Roger's point, though. The Sigma 150-600 S is the most front heavy lens I've ever used; it makes handholding more difficult even than the weight suggests because you have to support a lot of weight quite far out from your body when the lens is zoomed out.

But yes, it is really solid optically and has a fantastic build. The only other disappointment I had with it is that it doesn't hold aperture values very long (even compared to the other 150-600s) and arrives at f/6.3 earlier than any of the rest.

I have tried everything that Canon has advised to read I Dx Mark 2 raw files on my iMac with El Capitan on C Fast Sandisk but they are mostly all corrupted. Some files are curroptiing and some not. Also the camera works fine on older cards but not on the CFasts.

Canon seems to not want to help either .

They cannot be read by Adobe CS6 either but can be read using DPP which I never use and with Affinity which I dont use either.

Sad.

2. Regarding CS6 you have no luck. You have to use CC unfortunately (I do not like the idea of leasing the software).

No Adobe give you a free fully supported program, DNG Convertor, that will enable you to work 1DX MkII RAW files on old software.

I concur. After DNG conversion they load right up in my PS CS5.

It's an extra step but it doesn't take much time to convert. The Adobe DNG converter is updated periodically to address new camera models.
So if a card contains say 2000 raw files what do you do? You convert them all and chose and edit later? And you keep two copies? Doable but not practical.

So pay the $7.99 a month and stop being a bitch. For goodness sake you have a $6,000 camera and you bitch that the first party free software isn't good enough and you don't like the concept of the new third party software even though they also give you a free fully supported way of not giving them any more money and working with your perpetual license!
1st it wasn't me with the 1DxII. 2nd this is kind of blackmailware... 3rd They could make and SELL a CS7. There are ways. Are you Adobe's sale agent?

100mm L Macro: Extension Tubes vs Close Up lens for extra magnification?

May I ask..when doing focus stacking with that MP-E 65 lens...what do you use if not something like the RRS macro rails system?

Thank you in advance!!

C

Wow..so many to choose from:

http://www.hejnarphotostore.com/category-s/115.htm

Which one do you advise is the best bang for the buck to get? Would this fit on the RRS ball head I'm planning to get with my new RRS sticks?

TIA,

cayenne

Given what they cost, those RRS macro rails are a huge disappointment to me.

There is a huge amount of slop in them, especially problematic when making back and forth adjustments. Something like the MP-E 65 just throws a huge spotlight on the problem.

Henjar Photo has an extremely well made macro rail that is adjusted with a Mitutoyo micrometer. The price is relatively comparable and it's a much better product than the RRS macro rail.

And you can use extension tubes and a close up lens at the same time ;-)

Another want/need query

Jack Douglas said:
That's an interesting endeavor, thanks - seems my 6D first choice moving to Canon was a wise one. At the time I told my wife that between the 6D and 5D3 I'd take the least expensive since it seemed to have good IQ and I anticipated upgrading once I gained more experience. And here we are with my upgrade very near with the choice being 5D4 or 1DX II and I just don't know - harder choice than the first one.

Refreshing to hear, "bold claim, better check it out". I wish others would follow your example! ;)

Thanks Jack. Enjoy your 6D :)

I think dual pixel raw has nothing to do with adjusting focus. What it could offer would be a grayscale focus map just like an alpha channel, where an in focus pixel would have 255 and out of focus pixel have 0 of value.
That map could then be used to apply sharpening to in focus areas only and gradually decrease it for the oof areas, and vice versa apply more denoising to oof areas only to conserve detail. Add Bokeh CA correction etc etc... Pretty awesome if you ask me...

Agreed.

I'm not sure why some expect light-field style post-capture focus adjustment. This requires very specific information, and very specific sensor technology to capture that information (yes, even for small adjustments). Dual Pixel does not help with that

and you know this for a fact. not just hedging your bets, but as fact. you've reviewed all canon relevant patents and come to this conclusion.

cool beans. it's always great to have an expert in house.

Indeed. while I can totally get behind .. "IMO" .. and "it may not.. " and "I think..."

emphatic statements are always interesting ;)

Most popular cameras

What is the demographic of those who post photos to 500px?

Using that as a measure, only measures the popularity of cameras for those who post to 500px.

If I had to guess, the most popular DSLR are the D3000 series and the Rebel T5/T6 series. Simple economics. They are the lowest cost DSLR's. Entry level for mass consumers. They are also sold at Target, Walmart, and many other stores right there on display. Warehouse stores have pallets full of kits.

Other than a dedicated camera store, the only store where they have anything higher than a D5500 or 80D is Best Buy. My local Best Buy has everything on display except for the pro flagships.

Images of BG-E20 Grip & W-E1 Wifi Adaptor Leak Out

Diko said:
Why now? Why not 2-3 years ago?

I remember I expected wifi in the 5d3 and then in 2012 it was a new thing. Canon failed with timing :(. Perhaps they'd expexted to eat their offensively expensive wifi adapters :(

why not?

they should wait and not release it then because some may consider it.. "bad timing"?

the other adapter will be no where as limited in range as this ... oO
