B&H Photo -- workers conditions

unfocused said:
I find it disturbing that so many want to shut down debate and discussion.

The discussion has been fair and not in the least bit out-of-hand. Life is controversial. Get over it.

That said, I fully expect this thread to get shut down. Censorship is beloved on this forum.

It's not about what is said, it's about where the discussion is held. A non-political gear rumors site has a right to remain non-political and civil.

There are thousands of websites to discuss politics endlessly.

Other than either spreading unsubstantiated accusations and generating speculation, what is the point of the thread? What information was provided by the OP or any who followed that informs customers of the validity of claims made by a union looking for leverage going into a battle with B&H?

We don't know what efforts the reporter made to get B&H's side of the story. The "several attempts" could have been a few phone calls during a lunch hour.

The OP, just based on a one-sided story, has told us he/she is going to reconsider doing business with B&H. ahsanford, did you email B&H with your concerns?

All of these aspects, the flashpoints, the bias of the people telling their story as part of a union campaign, and, sadly, the source of the story, make this a political thread.

If CR wants political threads, fine--just restrict them to the appropriate sub-forums.

First picture of prototype Canon 120 megapixel camera...

The camera will facilitate a level of resolution that is more than sufficient for enlarged poster-sized printouts while also enabling images to be cropped and trimmed without sacrificing image resolution and clarity.

My pizza is so big I can throw away half of it without sacrificing any food.

Perhaps a better analogy would be that my garden is so large that I can more easily pick the prettiest flowers to use.

Canon EOS M10 at Canon Store

At $600 it's more expensive than a Sony A6000 which is $500 on Amazon right now.

And even with it's higher price, the Canon doesn't have a viewfinder, doesn't have a hotshoe, it has a slower kit lens, and only has 18MP.

Sorry, but what is Canon thinking?

Actually, this competes more with sony's A5100 which has the same sensor and focus system of the A6000 but no viewfinder and a slimmer flip screen body. The A5100 is $400, while the M10 is a rebadged M2 with a sensor from 2 generations ago at $600.

Seriously canon???

A5100 is body only at 400, 550 with lens (Amazon). M10 is kit only.

Q: print quality PIXMA iP8750

Dear all,

I am looking into buying an A3+ printer. Has anyone any comments to make about a sub-Pixma-PRO printers?
The printer PIXMA iP8750 is a good deal cheaper than the PIXMA PRO 100S and it comes with 6-ink system, i.e. besides the text black has the usual CMYK plus a gray ink, so it is better than the standard office-inkjets, but it lacks the light-magenta and light cyan inks the pixma pro 100 ueses. (Obviously, a pigment-based printer would be better still)

Do you consider the print quality of this iP8750 sufficient or inacceptable?
Does the pixma pro 100s offer a better print quality that justifies its higher price?

Patent: Canon EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6

Dfunk99 said:
Canon had a 28-200 EF lens back in 2003, when I got my 300D, but it lacked IS & I never read any good reviews on the lens. This new lens, if it comes out, will definitely need IS.

That's right, there were two, both introduced in 2000:

EF28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 and EF28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM

I definitely see a market for an new 28-200, but with IS like you said.

HDMI + LCD Mirroring - Not available in the 5DS

Hey folks. I decided to buy a Zacuto EVF and it's fab for dealing with a missing tilt screen but I can't seem to find on the camera or in the user guide anything about mirroring the LCD over HDMI.

I know the 5D3 has this function and wondered if it's been removed from this one? Or is there a super secret way of accessing the menu.

I tried up, down, left, right, A, B , C and Start but nothing happened.

Zeiss Otus 55 ZF.2 mod to ZE?

Today I have purchased my Otus 55 ZF.2. Interestingly, the seller admitted he had only used the lens on a sony mirrorless body and never tried to fit the novoflex adapter that he sold together with the lens.

To our surprise, the novoflex adapter did not fit on the Zeiss ZF.2. It matches the lens bayonet, but when turning the adapter to click it in place it stops at about 20 to 30 % of the amount of rotation needed to click it in place. :o

It is the original Novoflex adapter and mechanically, everything looks fine. The seller gave me additional discount because of this, so I took the 'risk'. Any suggestions / ideas?

Edit: I do realize that Nikon bayonet turns the "wrong" way compared to Canon, so that is not the cause :)

Update: for some reason, when the aperture ring on the lens is set to f/16, it clicks in place smoothly ;D
Why does it matter?

11-24mm f/4L review at LensTip

The 11-24 has very well corrected distortion - about 1.2% at infinity. High distortion is just a product of using a small test chart at close range and the center being physically closer than the edges (=change in magnification = distortion).

The 11-24 is limited by coma / astigmatism, while most lenses that are labeled as having "coma" actually suffer from astigmatism and oblique sagittal spherical aberration. It does provide an excellent level of correction, however.

5D Mark III shutter sounds weird

Sounds a lot like what I went through a while ago, http://www.canonrumors.com/forum/index.php?topic=18743.0 , ended with a new shutter assembly, mirror box and focusing sensor.

Good luck,

Chris

Hi Chris, how much did it cost you in the end? I have a similar issue with a dropped 5DIII. It'd be nice to know the worse case scenario before I put it into Canon UK.

So to give you all the info, I signed up for CSP, dropped the camera off in L.A. for repair, they emailed me with a quote to replace the shutter assembly and mirror box, I complained, they ignored me, I told them to fix it, my wife got involved and she has 15k Twitter followers, Canon emailed her to have me email them, they said they would look into it and did, the adjusted total went from $900 to $300 and then they tell me the focusing assembly needed (past tense) to be replaced but we will not charge you and then I had a good working camera.

Or the simple answer, $369.20

Good luck,

Chris

Silverfleet Capital to Buy Hasselblad?

retroreflection said:
Various companies looking at the books and then NOT buying usually means that there is a fundamental and nearly insoluble problem.

To me it sounds like a poisonous cocktail of sharply decreasing market from above, an 5Ds(R) eating them from below, an owner who likely to want a lot for the Hasselblad name.

Even if you collected all the MF/LF companies into one, would you be able to make a sustainable business?
Even Canon and Nikon is getting pushed hard from the cellphones.

Review: Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II Via TDP

the test doesn't mean as much[/i]. Perhaps I'm just looking for him to be a bit more critical -- curve to a B to make the real A's really stand out.

I understand what you mean, but for me, the question is, should we ask for or do we need more critical/negative reviews that emphasize every negative aspect of a lens, big or small? I'm not so sure. Now, focusing issues are a big deal, I think, compared to for example vignetting at wide open apertures. I really do want to know everything about usability issues that prevents me from getting the shot, and that can't be solved in post. Therefore, I think it is important to emphasize such issues.

TDP sure isn't my only source of information. I use photozone a lot and many reviews on YouTube, but I always get back to TDP to get the more balanced and thorough view.
