Canon EOS Rebel Kiss X70 Specs

More likely it is a repackaged T3i than a T2i. I expect that camera will finally be discontinued.

I still have my T3i, it is a solid camera, certainly more than good enough for casual use.

Nope, the main difference between the T2i and the T3i is the articulated LCD screen and wireless flash support, which the T3i has.
The T5 / Kiss X70 has a fixed screen and no wireless support like the T2i . While the internals look indeed like a T2i, it seems they skimped a bit with the T5, i.e. the LCD has only 460,000 dots (T2i/T3i 1040,000 dots), the viewfinder is only 0.8x (instead of 0.85/0.87x), and it seems to have no spot metering - the latter means it perhaps still uses an older exposure system, and not the TTL 63-zone system of T2i/7D etc.
They also skimped on the battery. Overall, a camera that is a little lighter than the T2i, but not smaller, a tad bigger than the T2i.

The 1100d had the same 63-zone exposure system as the 7D. And the battery life exceeded the 600D. So in the 1200d it probably remains the same.

Something you might not see every day

how about people post some pictures of things they think are uncommon or unique to their area or hard to capture?

from my neck of the woods here's a big Sikorsky at work and the ever popular fighting eagle trifecta. eagles arent really hard to find you just have to go to the dump or the fish fertilizer place, but they dont usually get this worked up or let you get this close, and maybe some people here don't get to see them as much as i do?

What gear does a Pro photographer bring to photograph the Olympics....

Also...he notes that his 200-400 is his favorite lens for shooting sports. I've been tempted by the new canon 200-400, but can't justify the cost.

But....(I'm primarily a sport shooter)

I had an idea, what if I could pick up a second pro body and a 200-400 for about the same price as the canon 200-400 alone. ( my 5d3 is my current second body, but it's not nearly as good for sports as my 1dx)

Thoughts anyone?
I actually did something like that. I saw a Nikon 200-400 advertised for $2500 on Craigslist here locally, and after two or three weeks, curiosity got the best of me and I asked about it. The seller was a local Doctor, and he had bought it for his son. His son never used it and had gone off to college. He told daddy to sell it. Daddy had no idea as to its value, he had paid $4500 for it, and just picked $2500 out of the air.
The lens was in mint condition, so I bought it. Then, after failed attempts to buy a D3 locally, I bought a D300s and a $100 aluminum gimbal head. So, for $3200, I have a semi pro level camera with the 200-400 VR I lens and and gimbal head. The VRII lens has a bit better stabilization, but optically its pretty much the same. My lens would benefit from more MP and a FF body, but I've had a D800 already and don't want another.

That's far cheaper than buying just the Canon lens.

Mt Spokane....That's a pretty nice acquisition you made..and a heck of a lot less expensive than the canon 200-400

What to buy????

I currently shoot with a Nikon D700.. I have used Canon in the past.. I want to get a new Canon.. A lot of my friends shoot with Canon, 5D Mark lll, 6D, 70D, which all interest me. But there is talk about perhaps a 7D Mark ll, in the horizon, What do I do? get one of the three models mentioned above or do you think there will be 7D Mark ll sometime soon?
I shoot a lot of Landscape, Nature, some portrait. I just don't know what to do, which model to buy?

For landscapes, the 12MP of the D700 had a lot of Nikon photographers wanting the higher resolution of the 5D bodies. Since you presumably own Nikon lenses, if you want higher resolution images, a D610 or D800 would upgrade you for less money. As noted, the D700 is still a excellent camera unless you are needing severe crops.

I would not recommend going to a crop body like the 70D or 7D once you've had a FF body.
If switching to Canon is something you want to do (to be able to borrow or share lenses with your friends), you need to know if they are using EF-S crop lenses, or EF full frame lenses. The 5D and 6D FF bodies will not mount EF-s lenses.

<p>More talk that prototype versions of the EOS 7D replacement will be sent to the Olympic games in Sochi this month. For the moment, a lot of the functionality and features are still “up for grabs” on the new model. The current timeline for the camera is an announcement in Q2 of this year with a release in Q3. Perhaps the camera will be tested further in Brazil for the World Cup?</p>
<p>We expect to hear more during the Olympics, though any specs mentioned may still be omitted from the final consumer product.</p>

Has anything new been seen at the Olympics yet ??

Tamron SP 150-600 f/5-6.3 VC Review

I had a play with one today in my local shop. I am shockingly out of practice of hand holding a telelphoto! Even with a borrowed monopod shots were blurred, however there were 2 which showed the potential this lens could have, I would have asked to take it outside, but it was so wet and gloomy I was better off inside pointing it at a camera display cabinet.

I feel with another play and more thought of settings it would perform much better and convince me to pull the trigger on it. It may be I will have to use a tripod with it rather than a monopod.

Adorama slipping information of future 7D tag?

Sorry to disappoint, but no.

First, they'd never officially call it a 7D Mark I or anything like that. Second, you're looking at a footnote notation mark, as in 7Di or 7D†, although there's no footnote on the product page. They're marking it to indicate that compatibility with the 7D isn't 'full' in that with the 7D, you must attach the GP-E2 via the USB cable and some functions don't work, whereas with the 1D X and 5DIII (and more recent bodies), you can get full functionality and it's via the hotshoe alone.

This is the footnote from the Canon site:

When the EOS 7D is used with the GP-E2 the following restrictions will apply: a) geotagging function will not work for movies while recording; b) geotagging features will not work for movies when using the Map Utility; c) electronic compass information and automatic time setting is not available; d) transmission via the hot shoe is not possible.

Straight Thru eyepiece magnifier for 50D/70D........

Plainsman said:
Can anyone advise on a suitable type (ie NOT the prism right angle type that Canon make)?

Any recommendations for the ones on ebay?

Magnification of 1.3 to 1.5X would be fine.

Nikon make a good one but doubtful whether it would fit Canon.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Repair or replace 7D

The Canon 6d may not have the sophisticated AF system of the 7d (I have both) but the picture quality from its Sensor & Digic 5+ processor is far superior.
In low light the 6d excels and Ive yet to encounter any real world problems with the 11 point AF system (the 7d having 19 which are all cross type whereas the 6d only has a centre cross type)

Im sure Canon will replace the 7d in 2014 and at this stage no one knows its specification but if it were me I would not bother repairing the camera if its expensive.

procamerashop?

Online reviews seem fine with 'em, I may be ordering me a 70D soon so shall keep everyone informed... another Bank Transfer for Further Discount job - good stuff!

Also, like ProCameraShop, they appear to have floating prices which go up and down between the same two figures every week or two. I assume this is a marketing thing but the 70D's currently ~£640 with bank transfer discount - was ~£626 a week or so back and I assume it will be again...

I requested an invoice, been offered it for £626 and not yet paid for it but the online price has risen since - wondering if they'll still do me the cheaper price ;)

A lesson I learned the last weekend

candyman said:
Benjamin,

Did you do some post-processing? If yes, what?

Yes, I either post-process a shot or delete it.

All I did were minor corrections such as white balance, saturation, clarity, contrast, cropping (often necessary when using a fixed lens).
I was lucky since the late afternoon light was so gorgeous - no pp can create a similar atmosphere.

One exception is the duck in flight though. I wasn't really prepared for a fast moving subject so I used a shutter speed which was just a bit too slow for this situation and that resulted in a slightly blurred image. I tried to correct that via the Photoshop CC shake reduction filter.

Big zoom, small size

anthonyd said:
Hello, I was wondering if anybody has real life experience (and photos to back it up) with a superzoom compact camera. I was looking at the latest announcements by Sony at dpreview and could help wonder if a 24.5 - 1550mm equivalent lens that is smaller (and cheaper) than a full frame 50mm could possibly produce anything decent.

Put another way, if I were to go on a trip to Alaska, or Yellowstone tomorrow and couldn't afford a canon 600mm or bigger (let alone the trash-can size and weight) would it be worth it to grab a superzoom that has a reach of 1000+ equivalent? (not necessarily the Sony ones mentioned).

Please don't start a discussion on image stabilization, or the small sensor size and its effects on IQ. I'm well aware of all that. I'm asking about the lens, so assume we are taking a picture of a grizzly bear, or a bird, who's standing still, on a very bright day, with the camera on a tripod.

I suggest you look at this thread....

Sigma 35mm f/1.4

JPlendPhoto said:
Thank you all.
So the Sigma 35mm 1.4 seems to be a very popular lens, its just the focus is not alwasy perfect. It seems like a better option image quality wise that the canon from what i have read, also the price!

Ok can somone explain to me what this AFMA everyone is talking about? I see it mentioned a lot!

It's Auto Focus Micro Adjustment. It means every camera and lens are produced inside of certain tolerances regarding precision. But if you lens and body are focusing at the same end if that tolerance, it causes the focus to be in front or behind the point you focus on, a small mismatch. Newer camera bodies have the ability to adjust for this, to force the lens to focus where the camera body locks. This results in you getting sharp focus at the exact same spot the camera tells you when it shows focus is locked.

It seems logical that a new model would be named G2 X and not G1 X II...

Not if Canon follow the nomenclature they have followed for many years if they really do consider the G1X a pro tool, which they have always said they do.
That's quite a ... pro tool ;D

The G10 was used by a lot of pros. But here is what Canon say about the G1X
The Pinnacle of PowerShot.
Bright, fast and more creative than ever: advanced technologies come together for an exciting new camera that moves beyond anything the G-Series has seen before. The PowerShot G1 X digital camera will inspire advanced amateurs who have embraced the G-Series to explore new realms of photographic expression, and give pros an excellent camera that complements their creative demands.

Just pointing out that whilst G2X makes some sense, so does G1X II, it isn't like we haven't had a 5D MkII, and MkIII, and a 1D MkI, and MkII, and MkIII and MkIV is it?
Yes, but I do not think there is a comparison. We had all the G cameras with increasing numbers after all. Anyway the naming scheme is not important, they can make it whatever they want as far as the new specifications satisfy...

In what dimension does G1X follow G12?
Who said such a thing? Dreaming? Is it so hard to think that since there were G1, G2, G3, etc cameras they could very well be G1X, G2X, G3X, etc... Sorry if I didn't express the obvious thought even more clearly...

Which lens was it and how much did you get?

Well 1K euros is not bad but it is less than half the price of 5D3. No complaints though, this is what I want :)

$400 for the EF-S 10-22mm Yeah, I'm paring down the list of stuff I have before adding to it again with a 5Dmk3. I still have the 70-300, 60mm and the 15-85. Then the 60D, 7D and 5DmkII. I have way too much stuff :D
10-22 is a very good lens! Don't you need to cover this range? Or you have (or plan) a 16-35 with FF?

Will you sell all APS-C related before going full ... FF ? (pun intended :) )

Yeah, getting rid of the APS-C stuff. I'm not convinced that the 7DmkII won't be a must-get as well.

Once I had it, I couldn't figure out why I needed an ultra-wide. If I need something, I'd probably go to a prime. Selling the lenses and bodies is more of an exercise in self-control than anything. I'll probably get a 300mm or 400mm prime but I want to stop adding to the pile of things I have (and re-invest the cash).
It isn't difficult if you visualize your next gear :)
