Canon 2X III teleconverter

Hmm, I am just about to pick up one of those. But as it's the first negative experience I've heard of I won't heditate.

I hope you'll get a good one when you get it changed.

I have a 2x III that I bought at Adorama. I have used it on a 5D II, 1Dx, and a 1Ds III, and without any problems at all. Actually, this summer I shot it with the new 300L on a 1Dx, and it worked like a charm. I think the OP just got a bad copy and should get it replaced.

I believe all MBP models since 2011...have the RAM soldered in place at the factory and are no longer user reachable/update able...you have to max it out at order time.

HTH,

Not from 2011, I think its from 2013 ... I had replaced my 8GB ram with 16 GB ram for my 13 inch MacBook Pro, 2.9 GHz, mid 2012 model.
I cannot upgrade RAM on my 2013 Retina model now, as it is soldered.

Hey cool, thanks for the clarification!!

Can any of you imagine what reason a lens 10mm (APS-C) is more expensive than a 14mm (full frame)?

Probably supply (new product = small quantities) & demnand (as there's only this 10mm aps-c prime), plus a price premium added for early adopters?

Price premium added to cover the R&D cost. Early adopters are simply those who pay for the R&D. The price only drops once the up front cost for designing and developing the lens by the company are covered.

Meteor shower lens

I want to get some photos of the sky during the upcoming meteor shower this friday I have a 60D with a 50 mm 1.8 and a 24-105 f4 will my lenses be able to get good photos during the night? First time ever attempting astrophotography
it's probably a good idea to start out with wide FOV. I personally think the Rokinon 14mm 2.8 is really good lens start with. With what you have, it will be difficult for you to get well exposed low noise static star shots .. Play around with both if it's your first time out but... I would go with the 50 atF2.2 though and just go for star trail long exposure(s) and hope to catch some meteors!.. Ideally, more short exposures stacked together is better than one longer one. Star trails or not.... So keep that in mind if you're up for editing later. It's something I'm just getting into myself.... and beware the astro bug bite :)

What to do about my messed up 24-105mm F/4 L IS lens?

The first thing I'd do is see if AFMA fixes it. If not, then if I were sitting on a lens that wasn't under warranty, I'd be tempted to try adjusting it myself, under the assumption that the service place probably adjusted it wrong (or not at all) or that one of the screws was loose and the repair person didn't take the appropriate steps to get the lens to stay in adjustment. A quick Google search returned this hit:

http://canonrepair.wordpress.com/2013/01/01/adjusting-the-coaxiality-of-the-3-lens-group-in-an-ef-24-105-is-usm-lens/

It describes how to do a partial disassembly of the lens to adjust the 24-105's alignment.

If you decide to go that route, I'll throw in a helpful tip that I got from a musical instrument repair person: Nail polish is a good way to make tiny screws stay in position. :)

What camera for a mom

dgatwood said:
Does anybody build a full-frame point-and-shoot? Because that's what would probably be ideal for someone like that—a camera that's simple to use, but has a big enough sensor to be mindless in auto mode even when taking shots indoors in crappy light.

I was shooting photos of our wind ensemble dress rehearsal last week, and my jaw hit the ground when I realized that my old crop body used to struggle to get usable photos of folks in the seating area with the house lights on, and my 6D didn't even flinch with the house lights off, lit only by the stage bleed. It is nice not feeling like I'm limited by my gear for a change—no more constant dud shots because of having to use too slow a shutter speed.

There is, it's called the Sony RX-1. More or less P&S size/shape, although fixed 35mm prime, it does have a FF sensor and has gotten pretty good reviews, in general. Problem is cost, >=$2k. OP's budget is $500ish. Plus "it doesn't zoom" will mean the Mom likely won't like it because it's not at _all_ what she's used to.

replacement for my 17-35 till there is a 14-24

Get the 17-40L. I'm awaiting the same 14-24L or 16-35L III. I bump the ISO a bit and it get the job done.

You really think a 16-35 iii is coming anytime soon? With the II, they already increased the front element size to require 82mm filter... If one does come out w/ lots better quality I assume it will require 86mm filter or not take filters.

14-24 that does not take filters I could see, though, since that is something Canon does not have and it would be a good match for a competitor.

I can wait. My 17-40L is doing fine until then.

Fuji seems to be on the right track with retro design. Can't wait for ff x series.
Df is too bulky with too many buttons.

In fact it looks like it could be painful in use. Big, heavy, bulky and look at that grip.... :-\

It's not 'retro' design but 'reverse' design (reverse as in backward).

"retrograde".

Sideways 1.4x EF Extender III?

Hi all,

I'm a long-time lurker, new to the forum, first post.

I recently purchased Canon 1.4x and 2.0x v.3 extenders (both from Amazon). The 1.4x came packaged sideways in the circular foam insert. Everything else about the packaging looked normal, and the extender did not look used. The 2.0x extender was packaged as you would expect, with the barrel oriented up and down, to fit in the circular foam.

Has anyone else seen this? Is the sideways orientation normal for the 1.4x v.3? I've searched and found nothing. The couple of unboxing videos I've seen were of the 1.4x v.2, which was packaged differently.

Thanks!

RC Brown
